Game Info

Coin-op originally released by Data East in 1988; ported to the NES by Data East and released in 1989. I never knew this until just now, but apparently the full name of the game (at least the coin-op version) is "Bad Dudes vs. Dragon Ninja."

Other platforms: Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Apple II, Atari ST, Commodore 64, DOS, ZX Spectrum

Related games: None, I guess. Though Karnov, one of the level bosses, has his own game.

Tips

PressureCooker2600:

Quote

Always stay on the top level....that way you'll see most of the ninjas coming and be able to bust them up while they're in the air.
Best way to beat the first boss and lose no energy.....pop him once and then jump to the next level before he breathes fire. When he jumps, pop him one and then jump back down. Keep using that method and you'll have him beat in no time.
Best way to beat the midget 2nd boss....make sure you keep the nunchuk or dagger you get and you'll be able to whoop his ass quick. Just don't stop wailing on him.

Quote

The trick to the fourth boss is to jump in with a kick and then back up....wait for him to do that spinning kick in the mid-air.....and then go at him with a jump kick again.

All I can say on the 3rd boss is to make sure you have a weapon.

But the bosses on levels 1,2, and 4 all seem to be vulnerable to cheap tactics.

First score.....lost 2 lives fighting the damn 3rd boss.

Some tips:
Always stay on the top level....that way you'll see most of the ninjas coming and be able to bust them up while they're in the air.
Best way to beat the first boss and lose no energy.....pop him once and then jump to the next level before he breathes fire. When he jumps, pop him one and then jump back down. Keep using that method and you'll have him beat in no time.
Best way to beat the midget 2nd boss....make sure you keep the nunchuk or dagger you get and you'll be able to whoop his ass quick. Just don't stop wailing on him.
And whenever you beat a level, be sure to bask in the glory of your badness.

I just played and I didn't see anywhere to get my score, just continue/end options. Maybe you don't see your score til you get out of the "sucks real bad" category?

Ok, I got 33,200 this time but I had to hit "continue" to see my score.... is that what you guys are doing? I got killed by the guy with the wolverine claws.

BTW....

What's the preferred NES emulator here. I've been using Nestopia, but I've got several.

Use any NES emulator you want. :) Accuracy is the important factor but, as far as I know, most of the up-to-date emulators are very accurate, at least for most of the games we will likely be playing.

I use Nestopia and FCEU

Man, still haven't beaten my hi-score yet.

Got to the train level and got leveled again. Good luck on the boss of the train level......the chain-swinging guy.

Dang......I thought everyone had Bad Dudes. :?

It just seems like one of those games I see EVERYWHERE for like 99 cents. So I always imagined it to be like Super Mario Bros., as in everyone had it.

The level 3 boss is hard, I finally got past that only by getting there with lots of lives left. But the bosses on levels 1,2, and 4 all seem to be vulnerable to cheap tactics.
I thought I was going to kill the level 4 boss by hitting him whenever he jumped, but he still got in enough lucky hits to kill me first.
