The article states that you can get Vectrex carts for $5 a pop which I have yet to see...

Well, it's tough to go back to a 2007 article for things like pricing (and I purposely kept stuff like that vague anyway), but, yes, generally speaking you can get loose games far cheaper, particularly without the overlays. I've even seen the prices of the systems drop a bit over the past year too.
