After being so nonplussed with the PS2 and all it's 'lowest common denominator' gaming, there was pretty much no-way I'd be wanting Sony's new Blu-ray white elephant.
So, imagine my surprise when I spent the money I was GOING to buy an Xbox 360 elite with (but didn't as, apart from the 3 or so games I liked, it seemed to be entirely FPS's), I dropped the lot on a PS3!! This is big impulse buying. I don't do this!

The clincher was that it's a really capable blu-ray player and, unlike all the other blu-ray players of the same price, it plays Ridge Racer (which I'm a fan of).
So, not expecting much, I brought it home.

Oh my word! What a system! I got it packed in with another Sixaxis, Ridge Racer 7 and the second Pirates of the Caribbean Blu-ray for just £35 more than the system alone.
But I didn't even load the game or movie for about 3 hours, there's SO much to do here
I must say, as a Nintendo gamer, I'm not used to being given great chunks of free game demo for nothing so that was lovely (I'll be there at launch for Burnout Paradise!) and the PS Network seems to be full of original games, not just old NES roms, and for less money too.

And the downloadable content is brilliant. Got Katamari and Taiko Drum master stickers for my Ridge cars - yay!

Very happy with the hardware performance too. Glad I got the 40Gb model, as those 45nm chips are making it run real quiet and cool. I'll upgrade the drive at some point (as I know I'm going to fill it, I've installed RR7, got demos of Motorstorm, Burnout and Sega Rally already clogging it up- this thing is an arcade racers dream) but apart from that, it's great as it is.

So, in short, the PS3 is superb. And after putting it down for so long, I'm a hypocrite, but a happy hypocrite

I can't say I'm super happy with mine, but I must say, I find myself turning it on more and more to play everyday shooter.

It is a great system, and is shaping up with some nice titles recently. After a long period of disuse, I've picked up the old sixaxis once again. I can tell you Uncharted is an amazing game in many different ways, Unreal Tournament III is fantastic even with the sixaxis and Assasin's Creed had me glued all the way to its end. High Velocity bowling has also proven to be a fun pickup title. Sharp looking, easy to get into and play, but also having a depth sorely lacking in Wiible bowling.

I've also been enjoying Time Crisis 4 despite the slightly shoddy workmanship of the Guncon3. I'm a fan of the arcade series and it's a real lightgun experience unlike the piss poor showing of the Wii in that area.

My launch console runs whisper quiet and cool, though the right side of the unit is somewhat akin to jet exhaust.

Its awesome its loaded with DVD upscaling and other stuff that make it the best thing to play movies and HD movies on. I love it. I have the older 60G version so I use it to play PS2 games as well. Not to mention some (still playable) PS1 games.

Uncharted is probably next on my list. I also like the fact that Sony is picky on who gets to put there game on the Playstation network. I also like the fact they are totally open to Indie game developlment unlike Microsoft.

I just hope some more quality exclusive titles make it on this baby.

Hey, no shame in picking one up. I always had a rule that I wouldn't buy into a gaming system if it didn't have enough titles I wanted to play (as the PS3 currently does not) but I'm also an HD movie fan and my Samsung BD-P1200 is not all it was promised to be. I admit, a few times I've been tempted to eBay the Samsung and get me a PS3 just for the BluRay capability.

Now, if the download content, demos, and store blew you away, then you would die if you got the 360. The PS3 is shaping up, but all of that stuff is really years behind XBL. Make sure you get a 360 next.

I've noticed that Sony tends to keep me busier than anyother gaming company with demos, web content, and that kind of thing. I'm not offended by it in the least.

Though I'm not a fellow PS3 owner, congrats anyway. I hope you enjoy your new console.

Should have worded that a whole lot better. Its just to me it seems not many (if at all) "individuals" get there game out on Xbox live. All I see is Atari, Bandai, Konami etc.
Its nice to see Everyday shooter (developed by one guy) make it to Sony's Online service. You dont see that on Xbox Live too much.

congrats on the puchase. I'm happy with the PS3 but at the same time i'm unhappy. I like the new games comming out for PS3 like , Uncharted/Time Crisis 4/Haze ect. but i'm pretty pissed that every game that comes out on multi-platform isn't as good on the PS3 as the 360 counterparts.

Other than that one complaint I love the PS3.

I've had mine for just over a month now and I'm rather happy with it. I only have Sega Rally Revo I really like that game I played it alot. Rented Medal of Honour:Airbourne and I am liking that game. I just wish I had bought the 80gig one instead, mostly for the memory card ports. Would have been nice to be able to backup my gamesaves. I want to get UT3 as soon as I can I'm really looking forward to that one. I have only played the Wii once since I got the PS3. 21 games for the Wii, 1 game for PS3. Is that a good or a bad thing??

Had my 40 gig for a week now and i'm loving it! Have LAIR & Resistance fall of man, both of which I have become obsessed by.
Fantastic system, the downloadable demos are a godsend too with the price of the next gen games so high.

I enjoy my PS3 and am currently playing the heck out of Uncharted and UT3, and run Folding @ Home alot.

The only real complaint I have with the actual system is that there is no onboard memory for the Blu-ray player. In other words, if you are in the middle of a movie and push STOP or shut the system down for any reason, the next time you return to the movie you can't resume from where you were.... you have to start all over at the very beginning of the disk.

Was watching Live Free or Die Hard, the phone rang and as I answered it my wife hit STOP (rather than PAUSE) on the remote. Both of us were very annoyed to have to sit thru the beginning of the disk (the parts where you can't skip or FF thru... "Operation Not Allowed"), then use the Scene Selection option and then scan forward in an attempt to find the exact spot where we left off.

Heck, even my $29 Viewsonic DVD player remembers where I left off a movie.... but my $600 PS3 can't. Sigh.....

Other than that annoying complaint, my PS3 has been rock solid and a lot of fun.

I have a 60GB (wouldn't give up PS2 compatibility for anything) and it's been great, very high quality system. The sixaxis controller is much better than I expected, and it's light as a feather.

The bluetooth DVD remote is a must-have -- the PS3 is now my everyday DVD player since it upscales everything so smoothly and the FF button is as smooth as a jog button on a "pro" video console. Plus, no infrared pointing!

I recently got the Playstation Eye as a standalone (no interest in the card game here), and the little minigames and interactive toys you can buy for it are creative, fun, and cheap. Recommended even though the camera isn't going to get much use otherwise.

I have one eye on laptop drive prices, and will get a 250GB (or higher) drive for this thing the minute prices drop below $100. They're at $150 right now, so I suspect I won't be waiting long.

Oh, and games? PSN is great, and being able to play multi-region PS3 discs is going to be awesome. I got the Japanese version of Virtua Fighter 5 for $10 and I suspect it won't be the last bargain I find.

The Playstation Eye will come in handy for the next Burnout game. I love how they're implemented it. Basically, when you takedown another car online, it snaps a shot of you (being all victorious) and your victim (being not) and the latter shot becomes your trophy

I picked up the Blu-Ray remote (to play my one disc ). Very useful but pity it isn't IR as I could program the commands to my system remote then. So I need two remotes now. What a first-world problem!

Actually, on the subject of Blu-ray. I've surprised and super-happy to find that, although region coding is implemented (and, unlike DVD, we're now lumped in with Africa! Thanks Sony), many discs don't use it. Just ordered 2001 from your fair continent. Can't wait.

2001 is an amazing movie to watch in Blu-Ray. As are Die Hard, The Fountain and Casino Royale. The first space sequence is great.

How is the upscaling feature for DVD's? Is it really noticeable? I heard great things about it......

It's pretty good. I have to say it's not as good as the hardware upscaler of a dedicated player, but it's much better that no upscaling.

How'd you manage that? I'd buy that for 10 bucks...

You simply make a new user and set your region/language to Japanese. You'll have to navigate the menus by memory, though.
