a tiny bit. Not anywhere near the mammoth scale of the X-Box 360 problems.

Nothing in the history of videogames has approched the 360 failure rate I don't think.

I've never been a big fan of Microsoft.
The 360 is the probably the worst system ever released when it comes to "breaking"

I've had to clean the system cache and also have had a few problems playing some CD's (like the XBOX magazine CD's)
Its unreal.

But the thing is, I'm still happy with it cause Microsoft has given me some cool things that I want.
I like it with a grudge.
There's some good games on it without question so if mine goes I'll still get another.

Sounds like me with both of my game systems.
I can't stand SONY or Microsoft but the games...

Hi Guys:

Despite with the technical difficulties with the Xbox 360, they have plenty of irresistible games that i'm willing to squander for!! Ditto with PS3. Right now, i'm displeased with Nintendo with the Wii. Its not a true video game machine like I anticipated. Its to general audience like. But then again, it has its moments. Common, even senior-citizens are having fun with it? Ewwwwwwwwwww.

Anthony....

Personally, I don't care how fun the system is to play, if I had to return a system even twice I'd start getting upset. Theres no excuse for this.
I tend to agree. I've had my 360 for just under a year - it's been flaky for a couple weeks and finally RRoD'd permanently this morning. I don't have tons of time to play games, so I don't like spending ten minutes trying to get the system to boot, or reload after it locks up in the middle of a game. I'm getting it repaired, selling it, and buying a PS3. I'll miss XBLA - the best thing about the 360 - but I'm not going to buy more software if I don't think I'll be able to play the games in a few years. And while Gears and Bioshock were cool, I've played my Wii much more than my 360 over the last year, anyways. Just my 2c, I know lots of people love their 360s. More power to them, but now that the RRoD has affected me, I'm not putting up with it. There are more than enough games on the Wii (and ps3).

Yes, too bad it's based on the exact same "we made it up" correlation info.

Regardless if the information is completely correct (I realize the methods they used weren't the best), The 360 really killed iteself releasing such an unrealiable system. Sure there are millions of folks that put up with it because they enjoy the system, but you have to figure there are millions like BydoEmpire, that wont. in fact, any folks wont even take the chance. The 360 is currently the software sales leader, but they blew the chance to totally dominate this time around I think. If the 360 wasnt so flakey I think they'd be the hardware sales leader as well.

which consoles are we talking about here, since there are what 5 different versions now, which has the highest fail rate and which has the lowest?

Also, I was born in 79 and i wouldn't dare use words like gee whiz or Tubular, or golly gee, that's 50's stuff there, no 80's.
Tubular was 80's dude. I was born in 63 so the 80's are my time

Of that there is no doubt. I just get annoyed when people make up 'facts' and then they get taken for gospel.

The unacceptable failure rate overall is just a shame, the console delivers such a great game experience. :(

Wait, what was it they said causes the RRoD? Isn't the heat in the system causing cheap solder on the board to melt and eventually open up the joints?

If you had a TON of patience and a steady hand, you could fix this yourself. Although it would be difficult, you'd likely ever have to send the console in again. Hack in some cooling fans, and you should be OK.

I may be talking out my hindparts, but if this works, might it keep any given 360 going for ten years or more?

No, if it's a chip separation issue it's because of the stupid x-brace design that holds the heat sink on and generates a lot of uneven torquing. Over time heating/cooling eventually causes the SMT connection to fail. I personally have fixed one by removing that dumb ass design and replacing it with screws, and doing a system 'reheat' without the cooling bits attached.

That doesn't sound too difficult, really. At least not for someone with electronic experience. The average Joe probably wouldn't be able to pull it off, but he likely knows someone who could.
