7800 is done. I combined the D/A Ladder and a FMS64000 which is a S-Video filter. It outputs a clean S-Video image and a composite image that is multitudes better then any capacitor or analog combination. This chip got rid of most if not all of the bleeding common with video mods. Some games like Pole Position 2 still have a bit around the lettering (see pictures below) but it is much less then what it was. Ballblazer also suffered from this. Games that have a black background had some blue bleeding and smearing (see centipede below) which are corrected by the chip as well. I am quite happy with it and I am almost done with the 5200 version. Should be done Monday since I am going camping this weekend. I will be releasing the schematic for the mod after I finish the 2600 version.

That looks amazing, if you want to try it out on a PAL 7800, you can use mine as a test rig if you like

Cool!
Do you just run the luma/chroma from the original/FAQ mod into the FMS6400 for the improved output?

Basically yes. There are some slight changes but its pretty much the same circuit. I was surprised it worked first try.

Sorry was working on my garage (was leveling it
) and I forgot what time it was... I have the 5200 in front of me as I type.

Awesome!
I can't wait for the 2600 spec sheet. I want S-video!
Awesome work, as always!

Nice work L.E.!
I can't wait to see how my 2600s look after you mod 'em.

Thanks!
If you thought the 7800 mod looked great the 5200 mod will blow yalls mind on how sharp it looks. Pictures around noon tomorrow. From the couple 5200 games I have It looked just like an emulator.
Edit// What I think I am going to do is get a bunch of PCBs made and sell them. I do not like making the kits because the 10 and 8 pin wiring harnesses take about an hour to make and its quite boring to do. If anything I can sell the boards assembled without harnesses (wires directly to the board). Installation would be a bit tougher but should be manageable if I design the board correctly.

I would be interested in a few PCBs/kits without wiring harness, 4 switch 2600, 7800 (NTSC) and 7800 PAL (one or two)
Do you think they could be used on the 8bit computers? might be nice to add to a 600 XL

Wow. I'm running Longhorn 5200 version 1 right now, and my eyes are bugging out at version 2. Very nice.

Yay! How does this thing compare with, say, the Cybertech AV mod?

If you don't want to build them, maybe Al would be interested in selling them through the AA store and give you a commission.
Would be a great solution to knock someone else out of the market

Hmm... Well, how about compared with the CD4050 mod? I'd like to see this as a two-sided through-hole unpopulated board. Given all the jabbering about AV mods here and elsewhere, you could easily and cheaply sell 200 boards with no more labor than designing your prototype and stuffing envelopes.

Sorry about the long time between posts. I have a test Wednesday. Been working on my washer and dryer for the past couple days and I finally got it fixed up. So if all goes to plan I might have the 2600 built up by Friday...I hope

Hi,
How would the 7800 mod look if it were straight 7800? No tie-in to the 2600 chip, say you removed the 2600 video connections? All I'm interested in is the 7800 video only, so there is no compromise. Thanks, Rob

Would you be willing to sell the boards unpopulated? I want to mod my 7800 and figure one of these PCBs would look neater than something thrown together on perf. I either have or know where to get all the parts.

I tried it. Didn't see a difference. I wonder if it is because of the cost cutting measures that Atari
did to save on the 7800. Cheap Maria chips?

Yes I think I can.

Longhorn Engineer:
Any update on the VCS mod? I'd love to be able to go S-video on my 2600 and on the 5200 later on.
