In case anyone missed this thread by Curt, since it wasn't put in this area:

Already logged my intent to get a pair (at least, depending on price)
Should be posted in the 8bit,7800 and 2600 forums imo.

Do we need to deluge atari.com with orders?

I thought Atari weren't doing any more hardware

I think this could be considered a PC accessory with bonuses. If I were a big wig, and had a demand fo rhardware but had a policy against something like a flashback, I would do something like this. It's not hard:

use a preexisting design (CX-40) and make the insides more up to date using preexisting designs(see Curt's pics),

then tack on USB (no real development there, minimum costs),

throw in a few internal extras by popular request (um... nearly everyone here) because they tend to sell more units (proven with the CDTV), again using a preexisting design,

call a Chinese manufacturer and send a few emails, then release and have a small cash flow from minimal expense.

If only Atari would do more of this I would say it's a genius marketing strategy to finance whatever large projects wanted. But once every few years?? I cannot say.

Please keep in mind that this is opinion.

I think I saw some of these Joysticks at Wal-Mart a few days ago.... I didn't really look too closely as it's kind of like been there done that but I didn't notice if they had USB connectivity or not..

ETA: Never mind I didn't bother to click the link until after... Add a Atari PIP to the list though. I dig the new USB joystick... kind of makes my Stelladapter obsolete now.

I wonder what the "hidden surprise" is? Any ideas?
