I can't wait to try this on my saturn :)

I wonder what other saturn stuff is still lurking out there? Has Sonic Xtreme ever surfaced?

I know that some copy of the WIP of Sonic Xtreme surfaced a couple years ago... can't quite remember where I got it from and it looks like I must have downloaded it on my laptop as it isn't anywhere easily found on my desktop...

EDIT: WAIT a second - the thread I dug up is from 2007 and YOU posted in it! :) I'm assuming you mean the full game then?

I believe there is aproto pf Command & Conquer: Red Alert out there. According I think to Next Generation magazine, it was either being considered or even being worked on. The project was shelved because Virgin didn't feel like there would be enough sales of the Saturn version to justify spending the money to make it.

Sonic Xtreme was in such a primitive state that it wouldn't really be worth playing. Sega had no idea how to properly take Sonic into the 3d realm and so they were just experimenting. They gave themselves an insane deadline that never could've been achieved and so they of course failed. I think it's one of those games where it's more rewarding to wonder "what if..." then to actually see what happened with it.

Wow thats a LOT of info. Senns page is awesome, too. I wonder what Sonic Xtreme (for the saturn,) made it into (was it gamers republic or die hard game fan? I forget,) a big feature that spread over multiple issues and seemed to be about a version that was at least playable on a saturn...

What a mess of a development cycle. Imagine if sega had just said 'ok make a 3d textured poly sonic' from the beginning and went with that. I still think that the fisheye sounds cool :)

I'd like to see the article you're talking about if you have a link for it.

Yeah, Sonic Xtreme's development cycle was the worst case of development hell I have ever heard of. 20 hour days?! How long could they really expect to keep that up?

It's too bad that Sega pitted Sega Japan vs Sega U.S. against eachother in the way that they did. In the end, nobody won, and a couple of people nearly died in the process. If they had just worked together I'm positive they would've come up with something great. But unfortunately that had to wait all the way until Sonic Adventure for that to happen.
