Greetings everyone...

I recently got an old Entex Stargate tabletop and can't get it to power up.

After taking it apart and resoldering a few connections, and fiddling with the batteries a bit, I can get the display to flash for a second or two (so I know it works) and everytime I turn it on the speakers crackle a bit.

I saw an earlier post here about replacing the battery compartment on old coleco tabletops, but I was wondering if bypassing this and simply using an AC adapter would be easier. It does have a port for one at the back.

Which, brings up my next question: anybody have any idea what type of adapter an entex tabletop would take?

Thanks!

entex actually made an ac adapter. you might find one one ebay once or twice a year. or head on over to the handheld museum and ask those guys.

If you want to at least see if the thing works, you can just rip the plug off an ac adaptor from a flea market and attach the wires to the first and last battery leads. Or use a universal one.

Sorry, I was incomplete--the batteries are 1.5 volts each, so if it's four you need a 6V adaptor. If you just use a cheap flea market one you can rip off the ends and attach positive and negative to the first and last battery compartment spots --plus to plus and neg to neg. Or connect to the wires coming from the battery compartment. Or chase those wires straight to the circuit board. At least that would tell you if the problem is power, which from what I have read it probably is.
