Fort Apocalypse

Contest ends Friday, January 30, 2009 at 11:30 pm EDT.

I know absolutely nothing about this game... but it seems like you are able to set your level, gravity and number of pilots. I think start on factory defaults, unless you would like to start at a higher level, etc. Any information on this game would be greatly appreciated.

This was released in the US in 1982 by Synapse Software and programmed by Steve Hales. Here is also a link to the instructions.

Have fun and good luck!!

As always, please feel free to post comments, suggestions, ideas and gripes.

After playing this for a short while it's obvious why you get 10 lives, you're going to need them. The word unfair, among various expletives, will be uttered frequently. The tanks are a real pain to destroy with them launching a slew of guided missiles at you before you can even see them. Collision detection isn't exactly precise either. The ground based lasers that blast out at random and the moving blocks of death also add a hefty bevy of frustration.
This game is going to take some getting used to.

Just had a quick go on the emulator... good game not played this for many years... think I shot a few of those little folks who I should have been rescuing, oh well they might have been bad guys, you can never be too careful :D

45,376 (My Warm up) ;)

So is this an XL game? Would not run on my beige 800 without the Warerat XL upgrade.

Score 74,170 (might be 79,170?! will check as pic taken in a hurry as no pause on my XE!) [Edit: yes 74k]

Not sure if I like being last in the table (even at day 2) so had a couple of goes! Managed to beat the game and I guess a few of you will, so, rather than it being a contest of who can shoot the most scenery etc am wondering if those who do fancy a challenge on a harder setting to settle the places?

How about Pro, Seven lives with Strong Gravity to start with :?: [Edit: It's no good, just beaten this too 74,047 :| it's gonna have to be on Expert level folks :?:

Actually used to be pretty good at this game. This is the 1st time, though, that I've completed it since using emulators.

:ahoy: 76,741 Eagle Class 3 (on default settings) ... hmm I squeezed out a few more points but got a class 3 this time, am guessing you can get a class 1 somehow? Thought it a bit unsporting that the blue chopper killed some of the little geezers before I could... I mean I could rescue them

71,351. Managed Eagle class 2. My guess is that you get class 1 by saving everyone? I have no idea. I can eek out some more points, but I'm not sure that shooting every piece of scenery really gets you that many more points. You only get 20 points per piece. The more time you spend shooting crap, the more time burns off the bonus, so is it a wash?

My guess is that the faster you complete the objectives, the higher your final score will be. I'm going to put that theory to the test over the next few days.

Boy it gets epileptically tough on expert level (w/ stong grav & 7 men) .. best score i've managed is 24,192

I could probably make up an atr for you if you like? I have a disk which runs on a stock 800XL Actually it's already an atr thinking about it - it's sitting on my SIO2USB. Hang on ...

Here you go:

Attached File  Games.atr.zip   70.64K   60 downloads

Just checked it in the emulator and it works there too.

My high score was a whole 1300. I am not entirely sure I understand how to play this game. I also couldn't figure out how to get a screen shot fast enough! :(

Shoot all flying items, shoot the tank thingies with the anti-air missiles. (Use your radar, it's helpful).

Be sure to get fuel at the beginning! Just lower your copter till your fuel starts increasing. At the start there will be a wall you must shoot through (between the two tanks). Either to your left or right you will see some humans running back and forth. Just run into them with your copter and you will pick them up.

There is also a landing pad. These act as mini "save points" so if you die you will start from that point. Other than that it's a matter of avoiding the moving walls and lasers to get to the other humans. Although some lasers just transport you whereas others will kill you.

Thanks Shannon!!! I did know about the getting fuel in the beginning....but had no idea about the rest. :) Maybe I can get a better score this time around. :)
