I DO :)
Great stuff, very slick movement, bit fast/hard, just needs some sound effects... is this one you have converted? Is there a possibility of a file version to play on my XE? (Managed 2 wins, score 1580)
Thanks

Looks good, but it looks like you are doing something to stretch the screen horizontally. If it was not stretched, it would look great with artifacting turned on.

Plays nice xxl. It'll be a very cool addition to make this into an Atari release with the enhancements of Antic-E, sound fx, msx and a title screen.

Almost looks like an "arcade machine" title.

Remember also to read additional info about xxl's conversion discussed a couple of days ago 25/8/09 http://209.85.229.13...10MkZJinsCea2BA

Great work again xxl. Plays well :)

I like the looks of the video. Dare I ask whether color is possible? Or 480i? Or color plus 480i?

But nice job!

Galaxian for the a8 was perfected a generation ago. How about you smart guys give us a port of the 2600 combat cart? That's what I miss most.

I disagree. Atari's version sucked it (the "diving alien" sound is forever etched into my skull...like roof tacks across a chalkboard). This game on the Apple][ was many times more challenging and didn't suck. The sound effects were nothing spectacular, but didn't grate on your nerves either.

BTW who renamed it? It was always Alien Typhoon / Alien Rain on the Apple AFAIK. What happened to the rest of the alien formation?

I love the fast and smooth movement on here. Like mentioned before, it does seem a little "stretched" though, but maybe this is the intended style?

Galaxian was never "perfected".

The crap sound effects of the Atari release only serve to mask the even worse gameplay.

Then again, it's not much of a game to begin with, but one or two of the arcade revisions were worthy of a couple of coins.

Great work XXL  just had a quick go (or five) on the emulator, am looking forward to playing this on my XE later

I think you guys are being a bit hard on old Galaxian, admittedly I always preferred Galactic Chase, but having played Galaxian in the HSC recently it was a good game that still has a challenge and that one more go feeling even today :)

Really liking the single firing and not having to wait an age for the missile to leave the screen :) Maybe you should zero the default high score as it's hard to get over 3K :ponder:

there was a Galaga-like game for the Atari 8bit, called Hyperblast! It's fun, but talk about bad sound... if you guys hated the sfx in Atari's Galaxians then you really despise this game, luckily I always listened to music which played much louder than the sfx of my 8bit's games, so it didn't bother me one bit.

Hmm. Maybe I'm crazy, but I actually really enjoy Atari's Galaxian port. Nice work on the conversion, xxl. This version's definitely got more bite than the Atari version.

The best part about the A8 port of Galaxian is the attract screen that pops up if you leave it untouched for several minutes. It was one of the first of a handful of games I picked up in a boxed Atari lot. My first Atari, actually - an 800. I'd sadly just let it run to see it. This was a bit before I got online and the wonders/demons of eBay, of course. ;)
