Hi...

I know it's possible to load roms/etc from a CD-R with a bypass cart in (such as Native) but how do you do it?
(i don't want to do it because of native, I already have the native cd from Songbird Productions) but I would like to know how to make any rom (thats possible) etc. to load into the Jags ram and be played.
(I guess how to convert the rom to audio? and then make it understand what address to load it at)

Anyone have any experience in this department? The info would be
greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks in advance!

Clint Thompson

Hello Clint!

To clearify it:
There are two groups of programs floating around:
Programs written for the cartridge-addressspace $800000-$Dfffff
(Which will at least be started in this area and most likely will
move some portions into the normal RAM) programs to be loaded and executed directly in the Jaguars RAM.

All ROM-images belong to the first group, also most of the ABS and COF
coming from Alpine-developers.

Homebrew JAG-files and some ABS or COF files belong to the second group.

(At the moment) It's only possible to load programs from the second
(RAM-executed) group from CD.

Regards
Matthias

How to convert a program to a RAW-file:

You need a CD-burning program able to write WAV and RAW-files (CDRECORD for example).

And you need two Atari-tools:
MAKETRK and PADCD

Let's say you have written a program called MYGAME.ABS with load/start-address $4000. Use MAKETRK to add the header:

maketrk -b4000 -z mygame.abs

You'll get a file MYGAME.T00. Now use PADCD to get a RAW-file:

padcd +100000 mygame.t00 mygame.raw

Now burn a track with a nice WAV-file (A voice saying: "This CD is intended to be used with the Atari Jaguar 64-bit multimedia system!")
into the first session of the CD.
Close this session and burn the MYGAME.RAW-file as the first track of
the second session of the CD.

That's it.

Bye
Matthias

Cool, thanks for the info! I think I used to know what to do but either I couldn't get it working or never got the software to do it.
(don't remember, it's been a while)

I think atarijaguar64.de has that stuff right?

thanks,

Clint

Hi Clint !

Yes, www.atari-jaguar64.de has the stuff for download.
Once the site is on the new server there will even be more useful stuff.

Regards, Lars.

Hi Thunderbird !

It might still take a few weeks, until my server is ready, though.
(The Administrator said about 2-3 weeks)
But i'm sure some people will find the new stuff useful. :-)

Regards, Lars.

Hi, guys!
So, I am trying to burn phase zero on CD. I just miss the loading address. IIRC, there is a JUGS utility that tells you what the exact address is, but now I am not home, and I have the CD writer here.
Starcat: I already followed your directions, but are those parameters always the same?
BTW I still can't get that BALL GAME running. Strange. Any news or improvements

Phase Zero cannot run from CD, it can only run from cartridge.

NO! I don't have PZ at all! I just have the .JAG file so I was thinking if there was a simple way to have a go on it. But I think I just have to buy the "unfinished" cart.
It's a pity, since I am not a "collector", but a gamer, and I would like to have a complete game; but better a half than nothing :)
I think in a couple of weeks I'll write Carl, so I will check if there are CGE-JAG disks left as well.

Now I go and try to burn CDs with the other PD programs...
(it's just that I don't like to load them from a PC since I have to have wires all over the room. And besides I don't want to CONTAMINATE my JAG with a PC datastream  )

PS: for the records, I don't like copying and this kind of stuff :!:

Bye guys.

Bye!
