Hi guys,

I have a bunch of SNES and Genny protos that I would like to back up. I use a CopyNES for my NES protos and I use an Eprom programmer for all of my loose chips. I'm looking for the best devices for dumping SNES and Genny protos WITHOUT removing the Eproms. I have removed and dumped socketed SNES chips, but I'm not very good at combing them into a usable ROM. The Genny carts that I have all have soldered chips and there is absolutely no way that I'm willing to desolder them to dump the game.

What should I buy and where should I find it? I'm not interested in sending these out to people with dumping resources as I'm likely going to be getting many more protos in the future, so no need to offer up that service.

Thanks everyone!

You can try using one of the many SNES backup devices out there. I suggest the Doctor SF6 or SF7:

For the Genesis the cheapest and most efficient method is a Sega CD + a transfer cable.

This is what I used back-in-the-day to dump Genesis ROMs when working on XBAND Modem games:

I have something similar made by TotoTek. It looks very similar to that but is powered by a USB cable instead of a wall wart. otgher than that, it is just like that, a parallel connection on a bare circuit board with a special flash cart that can load genny or 32x roms.

I have to say though I am very intrigued by the sega cd transfer cable. I wonder why it has to use the sega cd and not just any megadrive? if anyone has pictures or more info, I'd be very interested to see it.

no, not doable due to hardware limitations.
