I have tried to sell R4 rarity 2600 games for the last year, I rarely sell any. Im beginning to think that R4 is really like a R2 or worse. Just from my experience I dont think R4 games should be declared RARE at all, maybe uncommon at the highest, certainly not rare. What does everyone else think? Thanks

Who claims that R4 games are "rare" besides random eBay sellers (who consider everything rare)?

R5 and over are Rare.

R4 = "Scarce+ Getting harder to find, it may be difficult to track down all the Scarce+ cartridges if you are only hunting locally. For that reason, you may have to resort to online resources to track down all of these, although you should be able to pick them up inexpensively. "

I guess you got a point there, its amazing how much stuff is rare on ebay, even if they are scarce, they still dont sell for some reason, at least for me they dont, maybe other sellers have better luck with them

It could be the price you are asking and you could also try selling on CTCW/Chase the Chuckwagon.

Star Trek is an R4 and I had a hard time tracking it down even through here and other retro gaming forums. No one had one to sell. I eventually got one through trade-n-games for a good price.

I guess I could try the wagon, what are the fees associated with it, are they cheaper than ebay?

There are way too many numbers in the rarity guide imo there should be about 5 not 10

No, no, no... there should be more numbers... one for each game. That would be a fun list to maintain. :)

Well I'd love to see an Amazon style sales rank for Atari games... in addition to the rarity guide to show demand... yes, hard to maintain...

Well, I had 4 of them listed with the instructions in a lot for 9.99, I dont really think I could go much cheaper than that, Im gonna stop picking them up when I see them, they are just not worth it

Perhaps they were just lost in the vast sea of other lots. That sounds like a great deal.

I think you are confusing demand with rarity. Most rarity four games are indeed harder to get, but the demand is just not there. Final Fantasy VII is much more common, and goes for way more than almost any rarity 4 Atari 2600 game, but there is also a demand that is way, way higher. I believe that one day there will be more collectors for the Atari 2600 than there are now. When that happens, you will then see a price difference that is distinguishable.

Edit: One more thing, if the game is boxed and is a rarity 4 there is indeed a price difference.

From what I see, horribly inaccurate... a joke perhaps?

Another issue is no distinction between label variations.
There is a big difference between a Sears Gunslinger picture label and text label.
(To use just one example.)

I think there's kind of a break point somewhere between R4 and R6. I can't give away R4 games, so I don't pick them up for reselling anymore. R6 games, on the other hand, sell readily. I don't know where R5 would fit in there, but I think I'd probably pick some up and try to re sell them.

Who's got money for Atari games these days, though? Pick them up and wait a while, then sell them for a couple bucks' instant profit.
