Scoring Points in Air Raiders

  • You get 1 point for each plane you shoot down.

Hints and Tips
The Manual
As always, you really should read the manual. In case you don't have the manual, AtariAge has a scanned copy available online. Here are the hints it provides:

  • Shoot down as many enemy places as you can the first time in the air. Don't refuel until you absolutely need to. The more hits you make, the more ammo you get the next time up!
  • When you see flak near your signt, pull back on the joystick so you are climbing when you get hit. This way you won't dive as much when you actually get hit.
ChrisKoopa
When you're chasing after the planes try to let back on the controller just enough to get under and behind them then slowly move up and tap the button to shoot them.

Seems like I get better scores when I take out the groups in three's instead of picking whatever I'm close to, otherwise I end up with a bunch of single stragglers all over the place.

I noticed too the enemy planes don't change elevation until you hit one of the three. I found that if I hit the bottom one first (since the first in each group is the easiest to hit because of the lack of elevation change) then I could spend less time at lower altitudes. I did better too being aggressive the first round and shooting more because I always had ammo left over (my biggest constraint was fuel whereas the subsequent rounds it was ammo).

57 hits, not bad for a first time up. Which means I'm officially an Ace Pilot! :D

I'm back after a long hiatus. I can't believe that I'm still in the top 10 for this season.

Interesting game that I've never played before. 1st entry is

Guess I'm a double ace. Boy will my wife will be pleased...

Man, is it just me or are those 4 seconds waiting for the runway to pop up some the longest 4 seconds in your life?

Great job guys. Over 70 is amazing!

My best so far is 63.

I've managed 41 on the first time up and then it is a matter of making every shot count. Need more practice on that.

I never really cared for this game much, mostly since I didn't fully know how to play it right. So I'm glad this came up since it made me actually read the manual. It's a fun and challenging game.
Please ignore the date on the pic. The batteries died recently and I kept forgetting to charge them up again. So I've been cannibalizing old ones from my remotes and the damn date gets reset each time they give out. :P

Agreed. I'm in the same boat. Before this weeks HSC, I figured it was just a simple combat flight sim. Now I have a much better appreciation for it. Very fun game!!

I like how the fuel and ammo are constraints that must each be managed. You have to be mindful of your flight strategy AND be a good shot. I'll be giving this more play time in the future for sure.

Another reason the HSC is so great. New game discoveries like this. :)

I got 105!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Triple ACE
BTW the counter rolls over after 99

I know that this picture is not definitive proof because it just says "05"
But I was way too into the zone to think about taking a picture at 99 points.
My last highest score was 88 so it is not too hard to believe that I could make it to 105.
