Important Note: This weeks competition is over and no further scores will be accepted.

Engage the invading Mortii spacecraft and fire your photon cannon by pressing the firebutton on your joystick. As the number of Mortii spacecraft decreases, the speed and homing ability of the survivers increase. Randomly, the Mortii Warlord will appear from his secret headquarters to assess the damage you have created. The sooner you blast the warlord, the more bonus points you earn.

Scoring Points in Universal Chaos

  • Mortii spacecraft (ie. strawberries) - 10 points, multiplied by the level number.
  • Mortii Warlord (ie. the blue thing that randomly appears) - up to 500 points in multiples of 100. The manual states that the sooner you kill it the more points you get, but this isn't correct. I've killed it immediately and only received 100 points. Other times it has taken longer and I have received more.
  • Killing all Mortii Spacecraft (beating a level) - 1000 point bonus, multiplied by the level number.

(Thanks to aftermac [+3] for figuring out the scoring)

Hints and Tips
The Manual
As always, you really should read the manual. In case you don't have the manual, AtariAge has a scanned copy available online. Unfortunately, it's so short (only one page) that it's pretty much useless.

I'm playing this on the emulator...it keeps slowing down in the middle of the game and I am having trouble reversing to opposite direction. Is this the how the game is supposed to be or is this an emulation problem?

I'm not having trouble with slowness, but reversing directions takes a bit to get used to. It takes a few seconds to "throttle down" before you can reverse direction.

Boy do those strawberries make me mad!

The game itself would be great except for the horrible spacial detection. There were times I blasted them and I died even after they did, times I blasted them, saw the blast leave me and hit them and still got killed, and other times I blasted them too late and somehow lived. The last game I died as the fly thing landed on top of me and I figured that was it for me. Plus the speeding up, slowing down, flashing, etc all at random is tough to deal with. Great idea for a game though... I even tried to emulate it on Mess (which I'd never used for the Atari 2600) and it worked somewhat better but still too frustrating.

Here's what I have figured out about the scoring:

-Mortii spacecraft (ie. strawberries) - 10 points, multiplied by the level number

-Mortii Warlord (ie. the blue thing that randomly appears) - up to 500 points in multiples of 100. The manual states that the sooner you kill it the more points you get, but this isn't correct. I've killed it immediately and only received 100 points. Other times it has taken longer and I have received more.

-Killing all Mortii Spacecraft (beating a level) - 1000 point bonus, multiplied by the level number
