Important Note: This week's competition is over and no further scores will be accepted.

Welcome to the mystical kingdom of Wor! You have been placed in command of an elite squadron of Worriors assigned the task of outwitting the sinister Wizard of Wor! As you descend into his diabolical dungeons, you will encounter deadly Worlings and maybe even the Wizard himself! Your only weapons are your trusty laser, your radar scanner, and your ability and cunning. You will need them all as you attempt to beat the Wizard and earn the title of Worlord! Prepare now, and then let the battle begin!

(Note that in 1 player mode, you use the RIGHT controller)

Important Note: Season 6 will be ending after Game 50, and Season 7 will start the next week with everyones scores reset!

Scoring Points in Wizard of Wor

  • Blue Burwors - 100 points
  • Yellow Garwors - 200 points
  • Red Thorwors - 500 points
  • Worluk - 1000 points plus double score in the next dungeon
  • Wizard of Wor - 2500 points
  • At 10,000 points you will be awarded one extra Worrior.

Hints and Tips
The Manual
As always, you really should read the manual. In case you don't have the manual, AtariAge has a typed copy available online. Here is the hint it provides:

  • Pick a safe moment and put your Worrior into play as soon as possible.
Otherwise, after 20 seconds he'll be ejected into the dungeon which may
leave him in a bad position.
  • Learn to use your radar scanner and rely on it to locate invisible
    Worlings and track their movements.
  • Don't shoot without having a plan to hit something. Otherwise, you may
not be able to shoot when you have to.

It's also worth pointing out that we played this game a few years back. You might want to check it out for further hints.

It's actually a bit easier on the 2600 since the monsters don't randomly change direction whenever they please like the arcade, they seem to change when they hit an intersection or a dead end.

So you can sneak up on them since if they don't "see" you they don't shoot at you. Arcade, they will just turn around and fry you
Captain Beard
Notice that an enemy's shots disappear when they are killed. This is particularly helpful for long shots on the early boards as your shots move faster than the monsters's.

I've been meaning to get back into the HSC and since this is one of my faves, it seemed like as good a time as any...

Nowhere near my all-time best, but it'll do for now.

That's (flicker) a hard (flicker) game, but it is a lot (flicker) of fun. I kept having the bad guys spawn directly on me. Finally I had a run of good luck but managed to loose three lives within less than a minute. Never played this one much before - kind of creeps me out (played Dig Dug afterward and it really hit me how creepy this one is).

I can't touch my first score. This game isn't stressful, it is downright unfair to the player. From what I understand, the arcade gives the opportunity for more than one extra life. Here, if you lose even one life, you are screwed.

Arcade gives you an extra life after the "The Arena" (3rd dungeon) and "The Pit" (13th dungeon)

2600 version gives you one at 10,000.

A flickery mess but quite fun despite the fact that "new" garwors and thorwors often appear right on top of you.

A 7800 version would be killer.

Nope. Seems like it alternates between a few screens. Would be cool for a hack that added the "special" screens.

Oh, and damn you for besting my score. ;)
