Game Info

For use with the Super Action Controller

You are the Italian Stallion and you are in the ring with the toughest opponent of your career - Clubber Lang!
Put up your gloves, look for an opening, than land a punch! Bob and weave. Duck. Jab to the body.
Quick maneuvering confuses your opponent. Direct hits earns you points as you wear your opponent down.
Keep punching away until he falls to the canvas! Then get into your corner and watch the referee count
him out. You are the new world champion!

Can't understand the bad reviews (digital press, videogamecritic). Rocky has a pretty deep gameplay for a classic boxing-game!

roadrunner - are you playing via emulator - I'm just curious to know what emulator you're using as I wasn't aware of one that suppports the 4 fire button inputs required for this game. Are you playing using the keyboard?

Hello,
I didn't know this game uses 4 fire buttons, maybe that's why i'm not doing too good at this game
I'm using the emulator MESS and a Logitech controller. I tryed all the keyboard buttons,
buttons A,S,D,F,G, and R are for player 2.

On a side note, why did they give Rocky green boxing gloves instead of red?

OK - first to admit it - I SUCK AT THIS GAME - NOT a fan of boxing or this game (although the first Rocky movie was good - not a fan of the current editions... but that is another discussion). Never had the game years ago so this is the 4 or 5th attempt (much worse scores...) --- not good by the score I'm seeing here.... anyway 86 - 118 (-32)

Just a note on the controls. This game uses all FOUR of the Super Action controller buttons as listed below. As far as I know no emulator supports the lower two buttons and so you cannot use the Block and Duck defensive positions in Rocky unless playing on a real CV with the SA controller. Seeing as how I completely suck at this game it makes no difference to my terrible scores.

1. Yellow Button = Punch Head
2. Red Button = Punch Body
3. Purple Button = Block
4. Blue Button = Duck

Any play tips from those who are good at this game would be gratefullty received.

Here's my best scores for skill level 2.

KO 1 72-14 (+58)
fastest knock out 58 seconds into round 1



KO 5 387-132 (+255)
biggest point advantage +255 winning by knock out 52 seconds into round 5


I would recommend using good defense and counter punching. Block or duck often. Develop good timing so when Clubber throws a punch he usually misses then you throw a punch and usually land it.

I really like this game. The graphics, music, and gameplay are all great. It does have a bit of a learning curve though. It took me a while to develop a good winning strategy.

Thanks for the gameplay tips - what about movement? Is it best to keep moving around, e.g. throw punch and move back to avoid counter punch?

I don't move very much. Ducking usually works best. Duck Clubbers punch then pop up and hit him, then duck again when he punches back.

Best I can do so far is (145 - 168) -23

This can be a very frustrating game - need to try out ed1475 tips though - certainly not using any defensive moves (block/duck) just does not work.
