EtherNec being produced

Recommended Posts

I don't know if anyone posted this yet, but over on the Atari-Forum, alanh is going to produce a run of EtherNecs if he can get enough orders. He needs 20 to make it worth while.

In case you don't know about EtherNec, its a network interface that allows a NIC to be connected to the cartridge port of an ST or Falcon:

Here is the link to the forum where you can request one, just go to the last page of the thread:

Why bother with the clumsy Ethernec when there are more compact solutions like the Hydra or the Netusbee available?

I Think he Netusbee is a littel more complicated to build and I don't know too much about the Hydra. Is there a site for the Hydra?

No site yet but discussion at Atari-Forum.com: http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=16785

djbase is working on it and he also posted prototype pictures yet. There is also a German discussion at atari-home.de: http://forum.atari-home.de/index.php?topic=5999.0

Basically a redesigned Netusbee with new PCB layout and no USB functionality.

The Hydra prototype looks great!

The Hydra does indeed look good.

But for those who have towered systems I think the EtherNEC makes more sense.

Additionally, the only other thing that concerns me about the direct interfaces such as NetUSBee and Hydra is if you pull on the cables accidentally too hard - I think the card could come out of the cartridge port quite easily. With the EtherNEC it's very hard given it's in it's own box and has another 15cm of slack via the 40pin cable.

All good points! even if the hydra becomes available, I still want an ethernec. I am going to try and mount the card in a SX212 case!

  • 4 weeks later...

I'm pleased to announce the pricing of new EtherNEC boards.

The page is up at...

Apologies about higher shipping costs for international folks, but these are heavy and I always ship with delivery confirmation.

Shipping will start at the end of September.

Awesome! Thanks alanh, I just sent in my order!
