I beat the Twin Galaxies High Score for Donkey Kong Jr. on the ColecoVision. I will be submitting this taped game for the Twin Galaxies Scoreboard tomorrow.

91,100

Congrats - how many hours did it take to get that score?

So here's my question. In your final screenshot, that particular screen with the moving chains, how in the hell do you transfer from the left-most moving chain to the first stationary chain? I just tried 2 games, I had all my lives when I got to this screen, and I used all my guys in both games at that one spot. I'm hanging off the moving chain with one hand, so that my other hand is free to grab the stationary chain, but every time I try to move left to grab it, I just fall straight down. I'm attempting the transfer as high on the moving chain as I can be, and I try it when my hand is actually partially overlapping the stationary chain. Seems like poor programming if you ask me. The Super Donkey Kong rom (supposedly a partial port of the ADAM version) has fixed this problem, and the transfer is a lot easier for some reason.

Personally, what I do to avoid this problem is simply to hang onto the moving chain (with both hands), and when I'm close enough, I try to grab onto the stationary chain. Always works for me, although you do need to be quick. :)

Those are some fantastic scores, you should see he is interested in submitting a tape to Twin Galaxies. It's all about competition.

A couple months ago, Kim ( Ms. Do ) and I used to play DKJ all the time. I got 148,800 back then.

I was playing Donkey Kong skill #4 yesterday and when I got to the third screen I tried jumping onto the elevator from the bottom and kept messing up my timing and dieing. It's important to be able to do this, because the 2nd or 3rd time you get to the third screen a foxfire is on the top by the umbrella and he will come down and kill you. I really want the record in both these games. My best in Donkey Kong skill #4 is 734,400 After getting frustrated in Donkey Kong, I put in DKJ and got just under 100,000 the first game 2nd game around 130,000. I thought lets pop a tape in and see if I can beat the record score. I made it to screen #8 without dieing, then died twice. I died again in screen #9 that left me with only one guy left. I could have had a better game, but figured it's a record so I would go ahead and submit it. Seems a little harder to play when I know the tape is running.

I told the Donkey Kong story hoping to make doubledown feel better. Sometimes my timing is great and sometimes it sucks.

Mike hang on the moving chain with both hands, facing right. Then when your at the point where the stationary chain on the left is closest to the moving chain move left. It can be a challenge at times.....need to have controllers that work perfect....which I know you have. I had a controller one time that had a dirty contact for moving left and I kept dieing. Funny thing is, I couldn't tell except when trying to make this transfer. It was just a very tiny delay, just enough to make me fall. I took it apart cleaned it with deoxit and could make the transfer without a problem.

I did try a third game last night, and my technique of hanging off with one hand, did work once, and only once. Then I tried again this morning holding the moving chain with 2 hands and then attempting the full transfer which did work on the first attempt. This really seems like a flaw in the program, unless the thought is that moving left 2 times (once to go from two hands to one, then from the moving chain to the stationary chaing) would give Jr. more momentum to grab the chain that is almost out of his reach. Like I said though in the ADAM super game version, and the "Super" Donkey Kong Jr. version for the ColecoVision, the one hand hanging, press left once to grab the stationary chain, works every time no problems. Anybody know off hand if the actual arcade cabinet has this same issue?

If you want I will bring over the controller I used to beat the record and show you in person, how to make the transfer.

Sorry, thought you were making a joke that I didn't have a proper controller.

I checked my Score on Twingalaxies the other day, and I saw that Mr. Duncan beat my score and regained his title as #1 thus dropping me down to #2.

I was really bummed that I had lost my record, so I decided that I would regain the #1 spot.

I just taped a score of 121,400 putting me back on top, for time being anyway.
