While not the best compilation release I've ever played, I'm enjoying the Data East Collection. Not sure I would feel this way if the price had been over $20, but I'm pretty much satisfied.

I got to thinking..... maybe someday one of these compilations will contain the various versions of the same game on the disk. Example: would have been fun to see and play the Arcade, Colecovision, 2600, and Intellivision versions of Burger Time and Bump & Jump on this disk.

I love bad dudes and not even in an ironic way, but i'd never played the arcade version. Turns out the NES version is as good or better. ... Way to go, team that ported this thing way-back-when.

All told, not a bad little package. Still doesn't hit me like SNK arcade classics. Really hoping for a second one with Aero Fighters/Sonic wings titles!

How is it better? The NES version lacks the two player simultaneous mode and of course is graphically inferior.

I could never convince any else to play this particular title with me so I never found out about it lacking 2-player, which is an issue.. Graphically, it really isn't that much different, amazingly. The NES version seems to have better controls to me... a little smoother maybe>?

The NES version did a great job reproducing the graphics to 8-bit but it's still not on the same level as the arcade version. Here is a side by side comparison:

Yeah, quite a bit of difference between the two.

Really? The NES version feels sluggish to me and has tons of flicker. It lacks that gratifying snap that the arcade has when you roundhouse kick a row of ninjas. :D

But hey to each their own. However, I find it a hard sell that the NES is version is better than the arcade version especially with the NES version missing the 2 player co-op, lack of digitized voices, inferior graphics, and flickering sprites.

Gotta agree with this. I loved the arcade game and I thought the NES version was a disappointment. The lack of co-op hurt, and the flicker, and I remember the animation being pretty choppy. To a large extent this is due to the inherent limitations of the NES, of course.

I played them both recently just to see and while I can't really argue any of these points, it just feels better to me. The arcade version feels floppy, like I'm flailing. Might even be just one of those emulation issues where it doesn't quite feel on (since I've never played the arcade game on real hardware). Still really glad to have it, though.

Not a triple-a title by any means, but an old favorite. I am also a big fan of heavy barrel and glad to have that as well - even though it's a bit of a tease considering how long you actually get to keep the megaweapon.
