+atari2600land
Work on GoSub 3 has just begun. I hope to make this a 32k game with over 100 mazes, but we'll see what happens. Here's where it stands right now. Like I said, I've just begun work on it, so it's not much. gosub3.bas.bin gosub3.bas
cd-w
How about using the superchip kernel this time for a higher resolution screen? Chris

+atari2600land
I've decided to come back to this project. I've redone the engine from scratch, and if you go past the initial three screens, you will run into bugs because I haven't programmed that far. I also haven't programmed the octopus in yet. So, what do you all think so far? gosub3_121909.bin
+Random Terrain
Might look better if the vertical walls were made of two playfield pixels instead of one. Edited December 19, 2009 by Random Terrain
sometimes99er
Very nice. I wouldn’t write home about the title screen, but the colors were fine. The sub and octopus were extremely cute. Very basic, playable and you actually had to develop a strategy for killing the octopus. Good fun. The new sub is also good. I would go for the old one though. Very nice to have different colors with sub and walls. I think the one pixel shot worked just fine. Of course it’s better with more contrast between shot and background. And the digits looks promising. The mazes looks fine with a touch of Adventure. What else do you plan on adding ? +atari2600land
I've added a title screen with song ("Octopus's Garden" by the Beatles), and added a delay between hitting the wall and starting over again. I must have spent at least an hour programming the song, and now I'm sick of it! gosub3_121909v2.bin
sometimes99er
Got no music with MESS. What do you use ? Are there also some "GoSub" and "GoSub 2" around ?
+atari2600land
There is a GoSub, link here, and a GoSub 2, which has just been released. I use the Stella emulator, which you can download here.
sometimes99er
Thanks. Okay, got sounds working with MESS. Wow, GoSub was great fun. The explosions last a little bit too long. The music is okay. The music with GoSub3 sounds somewhat out of tune (sorry). I guess musical notes are perhaps difficult on the 2600 ? Some musical notes sound like they should on the Atari 2600: http://www.randomterrain.com/atari-2600-memories-batari-basic-music-toy.html
