You know, Frogger is one of those games that seems like it could really benefit from an "update" with powerups, improved graphics, etc.
But in the end it can't measure up to the original. PONG fits this category as well. Maybe this time will be different... |

Nintendo Life likes it:
Quote Frogger Returns makes a welcome addition to the WiiWare line-up. It features good old-fashioned gameplay which remains faithful to its arcade ancestor whilst providing interesting new levels that enhance the experience: a hallmark of good retro game design. It's let down by limited options and lackluster multiplayer modes, but if you're a fan of classic arcade games it's definitely worth your 500 points. 7/10 Reading the review, though, made me less likely to get the game. The review sounds almost more like an apology for the game than an actual review. On another note, these kinds of statements, which I see from time to time, are really annoying me: Quote the graphics are all 3D polygons and while the objects look like brightly coloured, slightly chunky Playstation-era models in screenshots This just betrays an utter ignorance of what PS games looked like. Here's a comparison: PlayStation: Same shot from PlayStation emulator: Wii: WTF? How can you say that the Wiimake has "PlayStation-era" graphics? That's just lazy ignorance. Here's a comparison: PlayStation: Same shot from PlayStation emulator: Wii: WTF? How can you say that the Wiimake has "PlayStation-era" graphics? That's just lazy ignorance. They were comparing the graphics to the PSOne era, not to a single PSOne Frogger game that simply tried to give the arcade original a makeover using polygons to give it a retro look that was in 3d. Frogger isn't representative of graphics during the PSOne/Saturn/N64 era. The graphics of this WiiWare game could've been achieved on the PSOne if the developers had desired. Instead, they took a different route that maintained the retro graphics while giving it a 3d appearance without such things as texturing on the polygons for the most part. Even the Super Nintendo title had better graphics than the PSOne game, which aren't much inferior than the Wii's graphics. Frogger on the PSOne looks that way due to a artistic decision, not because of the lack of capabilities to achieve an appearance similar to this WiiWare title.

It'd make a decent iPhone game.
Frogger already is available as an iPhone game Well of course the Wii version of Frogger would make an awesome iPhone game, haven't you heard? The iPhone is more powerful than the Wii. Thanks Telltale (I am saying this as a big Wii fan) |

Frogger Returns is ugly, it forces the player to use a batcrap crazy control scheme, a bad camera angle results in cheap deaths, and it can't go online. Leapfrog over this one and hope for a release of the original on Virtual Console Arcade. |
