I finished Mass Effect recently (in anticipation of ME2 in exactly one month), so I may have to give this a try. It's been nearly a month since the last post in this thread. Any updated opinions on Dragon Age Origins?
Thanks,

Believe it or not, still playing it!! I'm like 70+ hours in, although to be fair lots of time I put the controller down and walk away sometimes forgetting i left it on, so that number is probably bloated. Still enjoying the hell out of it. Very fun.

I got this over the Holidays for the PS3. I am experiencing frame rate problems as well.
Cut scenes and gameplay. Except during game play, the music score cuts in and out. Annoying. So, as listed by others above, I too have not been impressed by this game.
Just got the PS3 too and thought great, some new system!
So, its normal to experience frame rate problems? I've noticed a couple other (PS3) games doing it too.
I dont really remember my 360 having frame rate problems before. If it did, they were so minimal I must not have noticed like I do/did with Dragon Age Origins.

What is the deal with this issue on the PS3? I just got done reading the reviews for Bayonetta on IGN, the 360 version got a 9.5 the PS3 version an 8.3, here was the reason for the lower score....
The PS3 version has a lot of problems, primary among them being the excessive slowdown and loading. During certain scenes of high action, Bayonetta can slow down dramatically, enough to affect the gameplay experience. I can usually tolerate that sort of issue to an extent, but the loading problems are simply unacceptable.

I've been playing this for over a week now and I do fell it's a great game. A GOTY candidate for sure. I picked up the pc version because you can change the view to get a better look at the playing field. The console versions don't do that. I rented the Xbox 360 version for a comparison, and for me, it makes a big difference.

I got the 360 version for my birthday so I'll be playing that soon.
Maybe I can finish it before Mass Effect 2 comes out.

Beat it today as a mage. Amazing game!! Really enjoyed it from start to finish. Took me about 100 hours (Was really more like around 60-70 hours I'm guessing)
I completed almost every quest I think. There were one or two pending when I finished if I recall but I was ready to defeat the darkspawn so I charged!!!!
Can't wait for Mass Effect 2, I'll wear my Blood Dragon Armor with pride!!

I think Dragon Age may get put on the back burner for a bit until I finish these, then Fable II, Mass Effect II, Knights of the Old Republic, Uncharted and Uncharted 2.

I know the feeling. One of the reason's I just went to the final battle was because i myself have about a dozen games already on the back burner....(Probably more like 2 dozen)

I am really, really terrible when it comes to buying games when I have so many that I haven't played or finished yet.
I must have at least 8 or 9 games I've yet to finish..... including inFamous, Dragon Age, Fallout (the expansions), Grand Theft Auto, and Halo War's.... and 5 or 6 games that I haven't even opened yet... including Super Mario Bros. Wii, Assassin's Creed 2, Modern Warfare 2, and Saboteur.
And yet with all those games to play, within the next month to 45 days, I'm planning on picking up Mass Effect 2, MAG, BioShock 2, Lunar Silver Star Harmony, White Knight Chronicles, Star Ocean: Last Hope International, and Aliens vs. Predator.
Sigh... is there a support group or 12 Step Plan for addicted gamers???

I also suffer from this same problem, which is why I'm trying to finish some games before I get more.
I tried this once last year. I swore up and down I wouldn't get any new games till I at least played the ones I had. Needless to say. About 50 new games later, I still have some of those old games sitting on the shelf still in shrinkwrap!!! I wish I was independently wealthy and didn't need to work!

You can finish DA fairly quickly if you don't get roped into the optional side quests.
I picked the game up again and created a warrior to get that origin story. It was fun but I didn't want to repeat the whole game. As an experiment, I tried using the worst dialogue option for just about every situation and managed to not pick up the Quinari guy, Morigan, or the bard gal. Si I think it's possible to dismiss just about everyone even to the point of only having maybe one extra character in your party.

Forgot to add:
Regarding Dragon Age - you can shave a lot of time off the game by not reading all the codex entries.
When I played Mass Effect I read each and every one of the new pages that seemed to get added every time I clicked on anything in the game world. That doubled the time it took to complete the game.
Like Mass Effect, Dragon Age's codex appears to be the entire development bible for the whole fantasy world. It seems that the thinking behind this is that both the Mass Effect universe and Dragon Age universe are all new IPs that compete with existing and well established IPs. They seem to want to make sure you have access to a lot of history and back-story so you could feel as vested in Mass Effect’s universe as you can in the Star Wars universe when you play a Star Wars derived game such as KotOR.

Well I picked up DAO during the Steam sale and I have to say that I do like it quite a bit so far. That being said when I get my hands on Mass Effect 2, everything else will get pushed off to the side. Maybe even eating and bathing.

So you got the PC version? Tell us how you like it. It's supposted o be better than the 360 and PS3 versions.

I just started to REALLY play DAO and while I'm not far into the game (I am with the Grey Wardens and just passed the "joining"), I am really enjoying the game and the story so far.
Question: does anyone have any tip's for setting up your team for battle? For whatever reason, I'm really not understanding how to assign battle techniques so that we fight as a team/unit. Examples: I tried setting up a "Defensive" posture and none of my three teammates attacked anything unless they were directly attacked; I tried setting up "Aggressive" and they all ran like madmen to attack anything in sight, leaving my poor mage to handle 3 Darkspawn by himself. Somehow, I'm missing something.
Any insight or tips you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Is the voice acting good in DAO? Being English, I really notice the kind of hokey fake British accents that you tend to get in fantasy games. I'm hoping this is better.

Thanks to Ze_ro's comments, I can confidently say I'm not going to pick this game up. Again. I got a nice discount code from EA for my birthday, picked up the LE for $55, then sold it for $90 right when ME2 came out with the armor and codes and stuff still sealed. Anyway, I like to do the killing of monsters, not tell a character to do the killing. So I think I'll stay occupied trying to get through ME, playing Borderlands, finishing Fallout 3 expansions and then maybe getting ME2. The tough part is that I love Fantasy Adventure Action stuff. But I really like the Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance style of control.

Bought the PS3 version as it was on sale. Can't play it yet (finishing ME and starting Bayonetta) but I've downloaded the free stuff already (as the offer runs out in April).
I like the way that, even though I registered the PS3 version, I still get to have the Blood Dragon armor for ME2. That's some cross platform love.

Having doubts now that it's cheap. Is the gameplay more like Mass Effect or SW:KOTOR?
