I never had Nintendo Power as a kid, as a matter of fact the only two NP magazines I ever owned or saw were the complete guides for SMB3 and Final Fantasy.

But I found myself in the bookstore last night facing a minty new copy of the latest NP featuring an article on the New Super Mario Bros. Wii, the best Zelda games, etc. So, I bought it.

I have to say, I enjoyed it a lot. I realize that it is Nintendo's house magazine and therefore the whole thing is biased, but it was really fun to read articles and reviews about video games in a printed format (the internet has been my sole source for about 10 years). It was nice to just sit and read a video game magazine and NP delivered.

I am now considering getting it on a regular basis.

Is this a good idea, or am I just over-excited and should be more cautious? Any NP fans?

I wouldn't exactly call myself a fan of NP, but I've been subscribing ever since I got my DS, and I've gone on to acquire a large number of back issues (still need quite a few however). Because it has been such a long-running publication in a field where gaming mags come and go, I find it to be a useful historical tool (the various redesigns are as interesting as the content) and has helped fill in a period for me where I wasn't paying attention to consoles and was exclusively a PC gamer.
