I was going to buy a copy of Jawbreaker, but I heard that Tigervision games don't fit inside the Atari 7800 cartridge slot. I play all my 2600 games on a 7800. Is it all versions of the 7800 that they don't work on?

Yes, the length of the flanks on Tigervision cartridges prohibit the circuit board from making contact with the 7800. Not good.

Well, I have an Atari 2600 Jr, but I'm pretty sure I don't have an RF switch for it. I do think I've got the adapter that I used to use with my old 4 switch Atari 2600 but I'm not sure if the one I found is the one. It says Input AC 120V 60 HZ 14W. Output AC 9V 800Ma. I know nothing about this stuff, but I was comparing this one to the adapters online and all of those say Output DC. Mine is AC-AC. So I'm guessing this isn't the right adapter to use? I wouldn't know if it would damage the system or just simply not work. I'm going to look like a stupid little girl now, but I had to ask.

The rf hooks up exactly the same as the 7800. The 2600 power supply outputs DC, so don't use one that outputs AC.

Jawbreaker is a pretty good game. You can "fix" the cartridge at least two ways: a) cut the extra long tabs a little bit shorter with wire cutters or something or b) take the cartridge apart and reverse the offending part (this makes it functional without damage, other than what you might do to the label in getting it apart). Also, I think some Jawbreakers may already have the sliding doo-dad installed the original way with a spring, in which case it should work OK already.

You're right, it needs to output DC. Don't use the AC one as it will probably fry your system.

By the way, not all Tigervision games have the extra long prongs on them. I think there was thread a while back discussing which ones usually had the longer or shorter prongs.

That is correct. My King Kong cartridge has the spring loaded "doo-dad" instead of the prongs. But, all of my other Tigervision games either require me playing them on a Real 2600 or using the 2600 adapter on the 5200.

I've never had any trouble with any TigerVision games with my 7800.



That said, my Jawbreaker has a spring loaded dust cover, and even if I had not modded my 7800 it would have probably fit. Miner 2049er would not have fit without the mod.

I don't recommend opening a Tiger cart. The labels look like they are quite fragile. I posted a guide in the 7800 forum that details the mods for Tiger carts. It's buried, but the search function will find it.
