I'm wondering why my Galaxian cartridge isn't working on my 600XL. It works completely fine on my 800XL, but when I put it into my 600XL and power on I just get a garbled and locked-up title screen and can't start the game. Thing is, all my other game cartidges work just fine on my 600, so I have no idea what the problem is. Is there some compatibility issue with the Galaxian cart and 600 computers that I'm not aware of?

Do you have the plain vanilla 16K 600XL?

Galaxian works fine on my Atari 400 w/16K. I haven't tried on 600XL yet.

Yes, a 16k 600. I just don't get it. I've tried maybe 20 carts on the 600 and all of them work perfectly except Galaxian, which will only work on the 800.

It does work on my 600XL. Just tried it with Galaxian cartridge labeled as CXL4024.

Thanks. Must be some weird defect or bad chip inside my 600XL. Never seen a problem like this before.

Try cleaning both the cart and the 600XL's cart connector.

Yeah, that was my first thought. Cleaned the contacts thoroughly several times before I tried it in the 800 on a whim and it worked. Even now, it works perfectly in the 800 every time but with the 600 all I get is a garbled, locked-up title screen.

I know that some games don't work on OS B (Demon Attack, for example), but didn't the 600XL and 800XL have different revisions of OS B? Although if a game as common as Galaxian wouldn't work on a computer as common as the 600XL, someone would have said something before.

Galaxian works fine on my stock 600XL too. Funny thing though, I have two copies of Missile Command and neither of them work on the 600XL. Both kick the thing right into the self test. I blame gremlins.

Well, there's your problem right there. Gremlins was only released for the 5200. If you've been trying to jam that cart into your 600XL, I can only imagine the problems it'll cause!
