Important Note: This weeks competition is over and no further scores will be accepted

You're out to clear the tracks with Demolition Herby. But on your way bash! crash! knock anyone who gets in your way. If you don't, it's the junkyard for you!

Squash a squad car, trash a tow truck...shift into overdrive and give them the slip. But watch your fuel--even hot-shot hotrodders run out of gas!

Controlling this dastardly driver could drive you mad!!! So just jump on the throttle and let him rip!!!

Scoring Points in Demolition Herby
  • Black out a single square - 32 points + fuel
  • Complete two squares with one line - 145 points + more fuel
  • Ram a chase car - 117 points
  • For each 1000 points you score you get an additional car, up to six maximum.

Hints and Tips

The Manual

As always, you really should read the manual. In case you don't have a copy of it, AtariAge has a typed copy and a scanned copy available online. Here are the hints it provides:
  • The Slippery Shifter - Evade those chase cars at all costs and concentrate on blacking out squares. Try using overdrive right at the beginning to get to the opposite end of the track. (This is especially effective at the first few levels, when your pursuers are slower and not so smart.)
  • The Bashing Crasher - Get those chase cars out of your hair--and rack up points--by going after them first. Then use overdrive to black out all the squares you can. (When the chase cars get really fast, this strategy might be a necessity!)

shadow460

Try to avoid making single squares. Get as many doubles as possible.

Don't fill in the squares as fast as you can. Instead, leave as many open as possible and only fill them in when you have less than half a tank of fuel. Even if they are singles, wait until you need the fuel to fill them in.

Leave some open squares near the top, too. You're going to have to run back up there all the time to knock the chase cars off and you might not have time to get back to the bottom for more gas.

If all three chase cars are off the track, outline as many doubles as you can WITHOUT filling them in.

If you have six cars in reserve, you can carefully plow headfirst into the fastest chase car. Try to do this when they're all three near each other so that the impact knocks more than one off the track.

By the same token, find the slowest chase car and rear end it when all three are close together. Hopefully the impact will wipe them all out for a few seconds.

When the chase cars stop erasing your lines, it's time to leave them alone. Instead, run top to bottom and back, taking a different path each time. Black out squares as needed to maintain your fuel supply. Try not to run in a straight line, instead, change directions every couple of squares, as this can complete three sides of some and even four sides of the double (with a blank line in the middle, of course). You can still knock the slowest car off for bonus points and in hopes that it'll take one or two others with it.

If you're running out of fuel and can't black a square out in time, don't even worry about it. Just keep doing what you were doing instead.

Which game variation are we playing?
#1--Children's Race
The other demolition racers are fairly slow. The speed
stays the same every lap.

#2--Beginner's Course
Pace stars out slow, but gets progressively faster with
each lap. After 7 laps, the other racers get going so
fast, they don't even erase your red lines--they don't
need to!

#3--Dastardly Derby
Start out quick, and then try to keep the pace! After
just two laps, your opponents don't bother to erase the
red lines anymore. They're just after you!

Number 1 seems lame and 3 is probably a bit too much on the difficult side to
start out on. So my obvious suggestion would be for game #2.

Remember these tips:

-Once you complete a square, you don't have to worry about the chase cars removing the lines, since it'll still remain completed.

-You can ram the chase cars from the side as well as the back, but be careful, since they'll go in a straight line, and may rebound back at you.

I got this score on variation 2. If it's wrong, it's wrong... I just wanted to start getting scores in. I'll continue to play game 2 until I'm told otherwise.

Yeah, let's play variation 2. It may be a long wait for Ze_ro to make the call.

I agree, Ze_ro is busy and sometimes doesn't get back on here until he posts the next game. If we're all on the same page with game 2, then I think that would be acceptable. This is all just for fun after all. :)

@Wickeycolumbus - There probably is a limit, but I think it is on the order of days. I saw that my post before yours was editable, so it looked good for editing yours.

Looks like it is still editable, this must be one of the boards that has no limit (like the market place for example) ;)

Been trying to best my score for about an hour now. I said screw it...just one more game...
