Just me, I'm a little silly like this but, I'd keep both.

Use the PSOne to play on and take up the smaller space on the coffee table. And think of the PlayStation as a back up... a spare. I have both a fat and a slim PS2. Both work great. Not selling either one. I have a front loader and a top loader NES. Frontloader no longer works, but I kept it anyway... on a shelf... can see it from here.

Also, I remember hearing a while back that audiophiles were really on the lookout for good, clean original PlayStations because they discovered that the old gaming systems made really excellent audio CD players for very low cost. Average Joe probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference, though.

My original PlayStation (anyone remember abbreviating them PSX?) was one of the ones that suffered a breakdown. It became very inconsistent on playing discs and eventually got to where it wouldn't play anything unless the entire system was turned upside down. Don't remember how I discovered that, but it worked like that for a while until it finally went kaput. That was when I got the PS2 Fat with backwards compatibility. Then they came out with the PSOne and I thought about buying one... just because I collect things like that... but then one of my "friends" lost about 95% of my PS library, so I had no reason.

Unfortunately, I just don't have the room to keep the extras... Right now, two of the PlayStations are stacked on my dining table, on top of a "spare" ColecoVision, and the third is on my couch -- and as of about 45 minutes ago, I have a fourth unit on the way (part of a lot that also includes 2 NES's, an N64, a Dreamcast and 2 Genesises ((Genisii?)) ). I seem to keep accumulating these newer systems, as the consoles are always included in stuff I want... >_<

Well, for what it's worth, I put the 9001 up on eBay and I'll be giving my son the PSOne, meaning I'm keeping the 5501. I was lucky, as I found both a PlayStation A/V cable and a power cord at Goodwill (they gouged me on the A/V cable, I feel, but at least this way I'm able to offer a complete system). I decided to bundle the 9001 with the one original controller I have and one of the aftermarket controllers. I suppose if I could throw in a memory card and some games, I would stand a chance of being able to sell it, but I don't have any extras. Oh well.

As for the multitap, I did some research and found out that on the PS2, it only works with PS1 games (though there is a PS2 multitap available), and on the PS1, it only works with games that specifically support it -- and none of the few multiplayer games I have support the multitap -- so there's still a chance that it works. I won't know until I get a multitap-compatible PS1 game. Again, oh well.

I have one of the MP3 player deals. It was a Chinese knock-off Gameshark clone with MP3 playback ability. It was really cool back in the day - I remember it just said "MP3 DJ" in big letters on the box. I still have it (in the original box I think). I looked for it just now and didn't see it! I guess it's in the wrong Rubbermaid tub!!! (Anybody else have a whole wall of these full of gaming stuff? How do you find anything?)


Original poster: Keep them both, the PS1 and Playstation.

The PS1 is kind of a cheapy piece of crap construction-wise (look at the little fragile plastic door latch) but is still a cool little unit. I have 2 of them, and the LCD screen on each. Someone earlier in the thread said the LCD screens were crap and don't compare to PSP. HOGWASH!!! There were several off-brand screens on the market - and I have used them - BUT THE SONY BRAND SCREEN IS TOP-NOTCH. Only a fool would call them crap. Additionally, the PS1/screen combo isn't trying to be a PSP - it's different. Can't play a 2-player game of Soul Calibur at work on a PSP, can you?

The Playstation is quality, as long as it's a later model. I have a 5501, and a couple 7000-series...I think a 7001 and 7501. The 7000 series have the light show - not just the PS1. I use the Playstation for....Playstation games (duh!) to keep the wear and tear off the PS2.

I'd put the Playstation on the TV and get a screen (Sony brand, mind you) for the PS1.
