So my 14 year old is telling me that he would like an FPS game for Christmas, and our system is a Wii.
We have a lot of RPGs, Arcade and Platform games, but nothing that is FPS.
I want to keep the rating at Teen or below....I don't want a Mature rated game.
I know there's a lot of crap-ware out there and this is a genre I know very little about.
Any recommendations?
Thanks!

Well, for free get the Homebrew channel and try out Doom and Wolfenstien 3d... I know that's not what you meant, but maybe a stocking stuffer

I'd start by looking here: http://www.gameranki...letter=&search=
The top 7 or so are all pretty good bets:
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Call of Duty: World at War
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Reflex Edition
Medal of Honor Heroes 2
The Conduit
Call of Duty 3
However, Call of Duty: World at War and Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare: Reflex Edition are both rated M (the rest are T).
So that gives you this list:
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Medal of Honor Heroes 2
The Conduit
Call of Duty 3
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (or Metroid Prime Trilogy, which includes Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2, and Metroid Prime 3) is probably the best of those, though it is very puzzle/exploration oriented; some people don't consider it a FPS since there is (relatively speaking) little shooting.
Call of Duty 3 and Medal of Honor Heroes 2 are both set in WWII; The Conduit is set in a sort of modern-day Washington DC but it has aliens and weird technology so I'd call it a sci-fi shooter. The Metroid Prime games are, well, set in the Metroid universe which is sci-fi.
I've played Metroid Prime 3 and The Conduit and I think they are both great games. I haven't played the others. The Conduit, COD3, and MoHH2 all can be played online versus other folks. Metroid Prime 3 can't (don't know about MP Trilogy?) though it does have some kind of online something or other...trading achievements/unlockables or somesuch - I've never done it.
EDIT: The other Wii FPS aren't all bad, but AFAIK (I haven't played any of them) they all have fairly major flaws, mostly involving the controls.
There are also a few WiiWare FPSs; Onslaught and Water Warfare got decent reviews though I haven't played either.

If he's OK with a Gamecube game instead, I highly recommend TimeSplitters: Future Perfect. I think it's got some of the same team that worked on GoldenEye back in the day, this one's got co-op multiplayer, vehicles and a really good soundtrack by Graeme Norgate : )
Of course it came out in 2005 so it's 4 years old. Maybe throw a used copy in the stocking, and get something else? It's cheap now.
EDIT: Crap, it's rated M. Never mind. It's just for violence though I'm sure... there's no adult situations or excessive foul language in this that I remember.
+1 for the Metroid Prime series.

Time Splitters FP, is awesome, but I'm sure the kid doesn't want a game that old. I don't consider Metroid Prime a FPS, but it's close and it is the best game of it's type on the Wii. If you don't have it, then it's a must have regardless. Conduit and COD MW:reflex are both good but nothing that will blow you away.

They really aught to have Doom on the VC or WiiWare.
It would be pretty damn cool to play Doom wii-motion style with the gun adapter.

Metroid Prime Trilogy all the way.
If you're looking for something less violent, you might might also try Firefighter.

So if a person hasn't played the Call Of Duty games in the past, and they start with Call of Duty 3, will the player be missing out on any important references or story line?

No he should be fine. I'm not 100% sure but I think there are different characters in each of the Call of Duty games. I started with Call of Duty 3 myself, very fun game

There is no continuing story per se, so don't worry about it.

It's always nice to know how a story ends....
My wife refused to give in and allow me to purchase Call Of Duty 3. She doesn't see the sense in having our 14 year old play a game running around killing soldiers in World War II.
I got the Metroid Prime Trilogy for my son, and he's playing it for the first time now after opening it this morning. So far he's having a lot of fun.
By the way, this game has fantastic packaging.
I'm keeping my eyes open for "The Conduit." His 15th birthday is in February and if he doesn't get bored with the FPS by then I'll probably get The Conduit.
Thanks again everybody for your help.

Nope, Borderlands is not on the Wii. The developer of Borderlands is Gearbox, and they've stated in inteviews that they are not currently working on a Wii version, or at least that was official 2 months ago.

That's what I appreciated about Halo and Halo 2 - you're only ever shooting aliens; even when you play as an alien (Spoiler!
In The Conduit, though, you do shoot other humans. It's probably 50-50 aliens and brainwashed/zombie-ish humans.

Oh, I wonder what other formats it's on then? I remember seeing 4 or 5 boxes in the commercials (and I KNOW it's not on the DS, and probably not PSP either)
I'm kinda in the boat of being against "shooting people" games. Not that I haven't, who hasn't shot Keys in the face just to see what would happen in Halo? But in general, I find myself not enjoying stuff like Tom clancy games,m WWWII games, Wolfenstine, etc.... But....I love FPS games like Halo, (fighting aliens) Aliens, (fighting aliens, with a choice of fighting people) Doom (fighting Deamons) Left fordead (yeah, third person, and you can argue they were human, but not now) or Unreal (yeah, you shoot as many peopole as aliens, depending on the version, but technically, you never "kill" anyone)
There are the few oddball games like Borderlands, or Fallout where you mostly fight endlessly respaning enemies and the crazypath humans, but for the most part, I just don't care for them.

So far I've only really enjoyed Medal of Honor Heroes 2. Great game.
