Final 3-D Blu-ray Specification Announced

Quote

The Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) today announced the finalization and release of the “Blu-ray 3D™” specification. It leverages the technical advantages of the BD format to deliver “unmatched picture quality” as well as uniformity and compatibility across the full range of Blu-ray 3D products, both hardware and software. The specification is also designed to allow the PS3 to play back Blu-ray 3D content in 3-D.

Surely 3d is just the latest stupid gimmick to get people back into movie theaters. The very thing that's been keeping people OUT of theaters is big TVs and things like Blu-Ray. I just don't think it needs this.

I saw Up in 3D - it was very well done and added a lot to the viewing experience. What I really liked was Pixar didn't "in your face" the 3D effects, which I've found to be uncomfortable when I've seen other 3D movies.

Yes, I agree. The digital 3d now in theaters is very different than even 10-15 years go. Thanks to the clarity, and now the commonality, they're not resorting to cheap tricks. Rather they're using the 3D to enhance the actual movie.
