I'll definitely be picking it up, the original was an amazing game. I probably won't be getting the collectors edition though, I was hoping for another figure like the first one. I love the large Big Daddy figure, he's right up there with my stuffed Half Life headcrab in terms of videogame swag.

Probably... but will wait for it to reach the bargain rack. I managed to get Bioshock for $20 2 months after release. Didn't really get into it.

Same here. I just got a new TV, and borrowed Bioshock from a friend, but haven't had a chance to play it yet.

Loved the first one and will be all over the second.

Last time Bioshock and Mass Effect came out at the same time too. They were the big Fall games that year. They are great to play together as they are two completely different styles of play. Feel like a brilliant FPS? Bioshock it is. Or you could just delve back into one of the greates RPG's of all time with Mass Effect. I can't wait.

I don't know if my wife and kids will see me for the month of February. I guess I will catch up with them in March.

Mass Effect. I bought that game from the same guy that lent me Bioshock, and I haven't played that one either. But I will. Someday. That and about 100 other games.

Achievements came first and were well implemented on every 360 game released. When the PS3 was released Sony at first said they were going to have entitlements, then they later denied it and eventually released the PS3 and games with nothing, after seeing how popular achievements were, later some games had trophy's and some didn't. Now I don't know if all retail releases and arcades do or not have trophy's or if they are the same as the achievements. It's all too confusing to me so I stick with achievements since I have over 102 thousand achievement points and only about 50 trophys.

I'll be picking the 360 version up for sure...along with Mass Effect 2 and Crackdown 2. Bioshock, Mass Effect, and Crackdown are probably my favorite curent gen games.

I bought the first one back in October and still haven't gotten around to playing it. It'll be a while before I get the sequel.

I know I'll be killed for saying this here, but here we go:

I really appreciate the game from an artistic perspective. The graphics, lighting and sound are some of the best of this generation.

HOWEVER, I really didn't enjoy the game. I applaud it for being original, but I just didn't like it. Maybe it's because I'm not into the spooky horror crud, but I think it was mainly because of the extremely annoying enemies, especially the robots. In fact, part of me just wished I didn't have to do the combat so dang much so I could soak in the world around me.

Also, from what I've read, the game sounded like it was pretty much completed. At this point it seems like they're just beating a dead horse, which is all the rage this generation. God for bid anyone makes new game after new game.. as soon as one's successful you KNOW there will be a sequel.

Some examples from this generation:

Assassin's Creed
DJ Hero
Guitar Hero
Left 4 Dead
Rock Band
Any EA Sports Game
F.E.A.R.
Batman AA
GT
Forza
Uncharted
Motorstorm
Ratchet and Clank
Halo
Mario Galaxy
Sonic whatever
Soul Calibur
Mass Effect
Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy Crystal whatever
Excite Bike Truck Robots Stuff?
Dynasty Warriors
Bioshock
Banjo-Kazooie
Resident Evil
Silent Hill
Call of Duty
Gears of War
Devil May Cry
Sims
Zelda
Tomb Raider
Fable
Far Cry
Metroid Prime
Killzone
Star Ocean
Street Fighter
Metal Gear Solid
Prince of Persia
Smash Bros
Elder Scrolls
Warcraft
GTA
Mario Kart

Hell, I could go on. Those are just off the top of my head. I guess I respect games like Heavy Rain because they've stated that they made the game, it's great, and they're moving on. FREAKIN bravo for you sir. I don't need to play a sequel when your wife is kidnapped, then your other kid, then your best friend, and then your ex wife to spice it up a bit...

Part of the problem with devs with sequels is that they rarely know when to stop. Soul Calibur is a wonderful example. It should have stopped with 2.

Couple points to note.

Not so sure I'd add Mass Effect to that list. The game was announced as a trilogy even before it came out.

Also Bioshock 2 isn't a sequel at all....it's a prequel. The fact that the first one was pretty much completed, has no bearing. :) (Actually I take that back, I just read it takes place 10 years after the first one?? I could have sworn an earlier article I read stated differently, sequel it is!!)

You really can't blame these companies can you? Sequels sell. Why would you as a business man take a chance on a new property that could lose you money when you know your have one that has already made you $$$? Not to mention, many of the sequels you listed above were simply great and even if you think they suck, sometimes millions of people other than you clamor for more. Why would a company ignore those people?

No no, I know why they do it, but still. I guess it's just a bummer when there are whole dev houses I buy nothing from becuase of it though. Like Ubisoft. I don't like the IPs they keep milking (assassin's creed, raving rabbits, prince of persia) so it's unfortunate as I don't get to play anything from their company as rarely does a new IP come from them. The last game I played and loved was Beyond Good and Evil, but that's not been topped by that company in my opinion.

I didn't know about Mass Effect being a trilogy, so my bad. And yes, while many are fun, it just gets tiresome. It's why the Wii I think is so successful. They really forced devs to create new IPs and it spiced up a stale industry.

Of course I hate how the Wii ended up, but at first I really loved what they did with the thing. I had the time of my life with it.

Anyway, back on topic. I don't want to derail this :). I'm curious to see what reviewers and guys here think of Bioshock 2 though. Judging from the pictures, I like the lighting better.

Does Bioshock 1 on the PS3 have trophy support?

I may get the 2nd one if I ever play the 1st one. I liked the demo but I have so many games I skipped Bioshock. Is Bioshock in any way related to the old Systemshock games?

Just found this news item:
"PlayStation 3 owners who put their money down on BioShock 2 at Amazon will find themselves the proud owner of this excellent Big Daddy outfit for PlayStation Home."

I'm contemplating getting it. I finally finished the PC version tonight (after about a seven hour gameplay stint). I enjoyed it thoroughly until a little bit before the end where things got a bit tedious (Maybe that was my back talking since I'd been sitting for so long, ha).

I'm really scratching my head though as to how the story is going to play out and follow on the original.. It just seems like there wouldn't be enough reason for a sequel--story-wise--unless they came up with something out of their arse, which might very well be the case here.. so I'm really debating on this one.

Going by the description in the Steam store, it says, like he said after he corrected himself, that it takes place ten years later. I'm not sure how that would fall in the prequel category. :)

**Edit: I just read the Wikipedia article about the game. The single player is due to take place ten years later, while the multiplayer is going to be set one year before the original game (Despite it consisting of your typical FPS multi modes). Interesting combination, I suppose.

Actually that is not true. You missed the part that followed...

I know I read it was prequel at one time when the teaser trailer was released and tidbits of news was leaking about the game.
Looks like that information was wrong.

$5 says Bioshock 3 is a prequel!!
