Please tell me which MSX games from the list above you would like to see ported for the ColecoVision. Choose as many as you like. Konami Sports Collection isn't an existing game actually, but you can think of it as a reunion of all Konami sport games for the MSX, like baseball, boxing, Hyper Sports, tennis, ping-pong, soccer, etc...

R Type on the MSX...yueck (probably the worst of the computer versions), your better off porting over the amstrad or spectrum version

Wasn't loderunner done on the MSX...try porting that

Already done by Steve Begin. In fact, he's working on a revised edition for CollectorVision, and it should be released later this year, if all goes well.

Personally, among that list, I'd go for Penguin Adventure (since it's the sequel to Antarctic Adventure, which was already released for the CV) and Maze of Galious. R-Type or Gradius would be pretty cool too. :)

EDIT: I'm surprised you didn't put 1942 in that list, Eduardo. A Capcom title released by Opcode Games would be nifty. :D

Actually Capcom never released any game for the MSX, ASCII licensed a few Capcom games and made the ports, which are almost all pretty bad BTW, except for Higemaru which was ported by Compile.

About R-Type, each version has its pros and cons. The MSX version has choppy scroll (as usual for the TMS9928), but uses sprites (most objects move smoothly), has colorful graphics and very good sound. The Spectrum/Amstrad has very smoothy scroll, but doesn't have sprites (which means all objects move in a choppy way), has very limited use of colors and sound is just a blip and blop fest... Personally I still prefer the MSX version

MSX

Spectrum

Hi... :)

We do not have a pinball game to our CV.
If Konami's Pinball was there I would certainly choose it. :|

Among the games I chose, I would like to see Konami Sports Collection, is a good alternative to Activision's Decathlon. :D

Wow, I didn't know Konami released a pinball game on MSX! You know, with Konami's Ping-Pong, Konami's Billiards and Konami's Pinball, Opcode Games could release a 3-games-in-one pack called "Konami Parlour Games"! :D

EDIT: Never mind, Konami's Pinball is an unreleased MSX title.

Actually there is a very good one, Rollerball. I had completely forgotten about that. And also forgot that HAL produced some very games for the MSX, in addition to Rollerball. I would name Inspector Z, Mobile Planet Styllus, Hole in One, Dunk Shot and Eggerland (aka Lolo's Adventure) as the top efforts. In fact here is very little known fact about some of those games: what is there in common between Hole in One, Rollerball and a sound editing tool called MUE and Nintendo? Hard to believe today, but all those games were created (and at least two were programmed) but current Nintendo president Satoru Iwata.
Another very good game I completely neglected was Alpharoid, a pretty cool mix of shooting game and robot fighting game, with one of the most infectious PSG tunes ever...

Parodius needs sound features beyond the CV capabilities. We can save that for the CV2... The rest are ZX Spectrum games, and... I am sorry for saying that, but I must confess... I hate the Spectrum with a passion. I hate its monochrome-ish graphics, its plik, plok sounds and its games. And I also hate the fact that so much of its garbage was ported for the MSX instead of companies spending time and money to create proper versions. So, yeah, burn in hell Speccy, you piece of half-assed Z80 kit garbage. Your user were all very poor people that couldn't afford anything else (notice that "anything better" would be a pleonasm)... :P

Ok, now I have took that out of my chest... while I haven't done remakes, I always try to improve things with my MSX ports. For example, Yie Ar Kung-Fu got a major facelift; Road Fighter got proper ending, etc.

Future games like Knightmare have got a new "easy" mode, which makes it playable by mere mortals like myself, an option screen and a new localized title screen. King's Valley is going to get a complete graphic makeover, a level editor, etc..
So I always try to improve something, even if it is just performance...

I chose a few from the list, but isn't there a Castlevania for the MSX? That would be nice to see on the CV.

Sort of... it's "Vampire Killer" and sort of a bridge title between the Vampire Killer arcade game (which if you're a CV fan feels 'weird' when you play it) and Castlevania proper. MSX version has no smooth-scrolling levels, it's all 1-screen rooms meaning the path to the boss is much more obscure.

It's fun though, and feels almost like a "What if..." title. If you could fit this on a CV cart you'd be a god among men :D

If Knightmare is being done, then I believe Maze of Galious is a must! I can't get anywhere in it and I still love it! :ponder:

Golvelious (sp?) is an action RPG similar to Zelda. It is a must, also!

Shoot, oh yeah - we're talking 32kb, maybe 64kb max, right? lol

I'll have to Youtube that Vampire Killer game. Sounds neat!

Vampire Killer is a MSX2 game, so that is why it isn't in the list, though... there is something in the making, that isn't really a secret, and I am pretty sure it is going to use more than 64KB...

a few more, just looking thru my msx emu collection

Bubble Bobble, Bomberman, Choplifter, Contra/Gryzor, Flight Simulator (sublogic), Hardball (accolade), hyper olympic/track n field, A.E, Yie r Kungfu, Spelunker

Not played them yet, but if other computer versions are anything to go by, these are worthy of a good port over

Bubble Bobble - MSX2
Choplifter - same as CV version
Contra - MSX2, and worst Konami game ever (I mean, the MSX version)...
Flight Simulator - MSX2 I think
Hardball - MSX2
Track&Fields - coming soon
Yie Ar Kung-Fu - out already, check www.opcodegames.com
Spelunker - good pick

I would just like to point out that Track & Field is being ported from MSX to the CV by Eduardo, and will be published by Team Pixelboy. This is part of a deal we have where the money I will pay him for this port will be invested into the development of the ColecoVision 2. So as long as the CV2 is in Eduardo's plans, I am confident that Eduardo will complete this port of Track & Field in due time.

The other part of this deal is the CV port of the MSX version of Space Shuttle - A Journey Into Space, but as priorities keep shifting and changing, it's not 100% certain that this port will eventually get done. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed on my end. :)

Using public forum to put pressure on me isn't going to help. ;)
I will get all the games you mentioned eventually ported, unless you get someone else to do the job before I can finish them. And that includes that other Activision game too..
And since we have started this exercise of self promotion here, let me say that I just got a booth for the upcoming Midwest Classic Gaming event and several of the games listed in this poll will be available there for playing (on a ColecoVision, of course)...

Heh heh... :P No real pressure here, Eduardo. Just keeping people informed. These ports will be done when they're done. :)

If I find someone, I'll let you know, but you and I both know it's rather unlikely. As for that "other Activision game", well, I believe I'll have another offer for you, for the same amount of money, which you will find much less "stressful". I'll let you know when I'm ready to discuss it. ;) Anyhow, thanks for confirming your intention to complete these ports. I'm sure others on these forums are grateful as well.

For those not familiar with the titles, please use the link below to at least see screen shots before voting!

After researching all, my votes were for:

Golvellious
King's Valley
Knightmare
Penguin Adventure

I would be happy with any of this and absolutely thrilled with all of them!

Screenshots are nice, but seing the game in action (on YouTube) is better:

The Goonies
Knightmare
Yie Ar Kung-Fu II
King's Valley
Zanac
Guardic
Thexder
Twin Bee
Gradius
Penguin Adventure
Knightmare II - Maze of Galious
Jagur 5 (Couldn't find a video for that game on YouTube)
Golvellius (doesn't show much, look up SMS version for more)
R-Type

For Konami Sports Collection, just look up games such as Track & Field 1 and 2, Hyper Sports 1 and 2, Ping-Pong, Tennis and Billiards (on YouTube or elsewhere).

Pixelboy, please, please remove the links. They are almost all from BlueMSX running at 50Hz, which isn't the correct speed for those games (20% slower than they should be). That is because BlueMSX defaults to European versions of MSX1 and MSX2.
Please remove everything and let me post better links, if they exist...

EDIT: The only 3 Konami games running at correct speed from the links above are Gradius, Penguin Adventure and Knightmare II. For Knightmare II I would recommend this video instead:

EDIT2: Those 3 happen to be the only 3 ok videos, the rest is running at 50Hz, has severe frame rate problems, missing frames (which makes sprite flickering looks like it is non-existing), etc. Check my link above for a good R-Type video. No goodie videos that I could find for most of the games in my list, if it is the case I can produce some, even using the CV versions...
