Hi,

I understand that AtariMax Sio2Pc universal interface USB edition supports this. I can see that it can't be done with a single MAX-232 but it seems fairly straight forward to do it with a DS1489AN or an FTDI chip. One can just connect the motor control line to one of the RI, DSR or CTS lines (whichever is not connected to command line). It would be great for cassette emulation in Sio2Pc programs. It's also possible to make a 1050-2-PC cable to read from cassette.

Are there any examples of this out there? Are there any de facto standards etc.?

I'm no authority but I haven't seen Motor On used for SIO2PC.

Examples of where I have seen it used include SIO based MIDI interfaces, ATART cassette emulator, and I think it was used in a flashable OS project.

Thanks for the info,

So I'm pretty much on my own then :)

I'll try it this week and see what happens.
