Ummm... why not drill holes in the stacks of carts and put metal or wood stool legs through them to hold the weight? From the outside it would look like the cartridges are all that is there. Just my two monkey nuggets worth. :D

Hmm.....this is workable. Very workable. I already used about half the carts for my original project but.....with stool legs like that.....or maybe a dowel....I could use stacks of 1 cart instead of my 2x2 idea...thus saving carts.....!!!

This idea is back on YELLOW LIGHT status!! I am still actively going to try it just not as quickly as a GREEN LIGHT project.....

They showed up perfectly fine Al! :D I did some preliminary work last night on the project and just tossed them in for "dramatic flair"....

Oh, come on, now tell the truth. As soon as you opened up the box, you shoved your hands in and lifted them up full of carts, then let the carts trickle through your fingers back into the box, over and over again, all the while giggling hysterically and gurgling, "Carts! Lots and lots of beautiful carts!" What we see in the picture is just the aftermath.

OK, I think I've got the idea to get this back to "green light" status:

Use a plastic milk crate to support the TV inside your cart structure. Many advantages:

  • They are crazy-strong (supports the weight of [most] full-size humans [smaller monkeys, too!])
  • They are crazy-lightweight for their strength
  • They are crazy-easy-to-get (just lurk around your local supermarket...)
  • Offers crazy ventilation, at least inside your structure
  • Maybe not crazy-easy, but should be crazy-not-too-hard to cut into so the TV sits securely on its back on its milk-crate cradle (Cratle®™?! :D)

Does that sound too crazy?

Just make refridgerator magnets out of the used cartridges, they look cool and will be practical for friends/family (gifts)

That's a cool idea!

Thanks! I can't take the credit for it though. There is an old story, I believe from one of the Digital Press printings called "Saving Private Chuckwagon" it is a story of a guy who back in the late 80's or early 90's used to purchase Atari games with his brother and they would purposely buy games with funny names too see how awful the games were. Anyways, they found one store that had quite a few games for sale and the guy said "buy them quick, what ever hasn't sold by the weekend becomes a refridgerator magnet" at the same time he whipped out an impressive custom atari cart turned fridge magnet. They ended up purchasing Chase the Chuckwagon because of the funny name and struck gold (this was back when this game used to sell for $200+) so, that is the story and yes, I do think they would be a cool idea! Now somebody start making them :D ;)

Micheal's or any other craft store sells magnet kits actually. You can get them for around $4 and they include a magnet with sticky-tape on one side so you just stick the magnet on. One-stop-shopping for crafts and it is maybe a 5 minute thing to do! You just stick the magnet on the center of the cart with the sticky-tape and then you're done, print labels or what have you and WHAM! Magnets!

Every craft store should have a bag of them in something like 'magnet kit' for around $5. :D

Just ask the monkey; the monkey knows.

I was actually thinking of those flexible magnets. They are nice and thin and you could cut it out so it's just slightly smaller than the cart. The contact area of the magnet would be larger and the center of gravity of the cart would be closer to the fridge. I don't know if it would work better than a magnet kit or not though.

I would just go to the dollar store when the magnets come in and buy normal superglue, should work fine! The dollar store here currently has 3-packs in a bag and that would likely be enough glue to last you for 200 or so magnets! Just make sure to use a small dab of it on the magnet itself and you're good to go!

So I was going to go forward with the refrigerator magnet idea....cheap, easy to implement, just some photo paper, inkjet printer, and the materials I already have plus some magnets -- and sell 'em on here for $5 shipped or something really cheap to cover materials but then I realized....

Can't do that! If I custom-print labels of copyrighted games and then sell them on here, I am infringing upon Atari's copyright for the artwork on the labels. It is one thing to print my own labels for private use, like my table, or repurpose original carts for making lamps to sell or give away (I wouldn't be profiting anyway, just charging materials cost) but to re-print a label that is copyrighted would definitely be infringement, which I staunchly will not do.

Sorry, no magnets from Monkey Labs :(
