ok so couple of questions, I just got a saturn of ebay and it came with rf cable, is the best picture quality I can get with AV cable? does saturn have Svideo cable? and which av cable do i get?

Now, I only have a couple of game which I got a while back to resell and these are left overs (even though I never had a saturn), so aside from this games, which are the MUST have games that are fun to play? The one I really want is X-Men Children of the atom, but what other gems are out there?

here are pics of what I have so far:

S-video is the way to go. I bought mine off ebay for a couple of bucks.

You'll want to invest in a 4meg RAM cart in order to play the 2D fighting games for the full experience; they run about $30-$40 on ebay. There's also the option of investing in an Action Replay 4 in 1 cart. It provides the needed RAM for 2D games, flash memory between the cart and internal Saturn battery (the cart can't hold saved games), and allows you to play import games.

As for games, if you're a fan of 2D fighters (which you seem to be), then you're in luck because this is the best system for them:

Darkstalkers Revenge
Mortal Kombat 2
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
Marvel Super Heroes and vs. Street Fighter
Xmen CoTA and Xmen vs. Street Fighter
Street Fighter Alpha, Alpha 2 and Street Fighter Collection
Most (or all) of the SNK fighting games are imports

The rest just depends on what kind of games you like.

I have a lot more Saturn games than this, but these are some that I that I like.

I haven't played my Saturn in a long time - simply a cast of "too many systems" but I love it!

Of course, gaming tastes vary, so perhaps not all of these are appealing.

Bomberman (if you like Bomberman, this is the best!)
Burning Rangers
Daytona USA
Die Hard Arcade
Duke Nukem 3D
Fighter's Megamix
House of the Dead
Iron Storm
Last Bronx
NBA Jam T.E. (biggest best sprites in this version)
Need for Speed (unless you have it on PS1 which is identical)
Nights
Panzer Dragoon (1/2/Panzer Dragoon Saga)
Powerslave (best FPS game; engine used for Quake)
Sega Ages (only 1 released in U.S. as this name = Afterburner II, Outrun, Space Harrier)
Sega Rally (someone else previously suggested)
Steep Slope Sliders
Virtual On
Winter Heat

Saturn is a great system. Its relative obscurity makes it a fun system to collect.

Oh, forgot to say the Saturn version of Virtua Racing (saw it on your shelf) is TERRIBLE (don't let it discourage you from the system). It's a real shame. I seem to remember the development was "outsourced." I bought that one in the old days with *really* high hopes and was so utterly disappointed, I'm still bitter. 32X version is the best.

Dragon Force. I love that game! If you even remotely like RPGs you'll want to pick this one up. This is the one game that makes me wish I hadn't sold off my Saturn.

I don't have a lot of Saturn games, but one of my favorites that I do have is Darius Gaiden. Nice shooter... doesn't have the usual hard rock soundtrack that shooters have. It's actually kind of like opera or something.

You'll want to pick up a Stunner. It's the best console light gun I've ever used. Virtua Cop is amazing on the Saturn. Most of the other great games have been mentioned, but you'll want to check out Racketboy for some more recommendations.

Pretty much all the Sega arcade conversions are awesome; Virtua Fighter 2, Sega Rally, Fighting Vipers, Die Hard Arcade etc.

Apart from those I would recommend: (my fave 3 in catagory)

Sports games: Worldwide Soccer '98, Virtua Golf 2, NBA Jam Extreme.

Puzzle: Tetris, Baku Baku, Bust A Move 3.

Racing: F1 Challenge, Sonic R, Road Rash.

Shoot 'Em Up: Darius Gaiden, Mass Destruction, Wing Arms.

Beat 'Em Up: Guardian Heroes, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Streetfighter Alpha 2.

Platformers: Sonic 3D, Sonic Collection, Rayman.

Strategy: Theme Park, Command & Conquer, Worms

First/Third Person Shooters: Panzer Dragoon 1, Panzer Dragoon 2, Quake

Adventure: Disc World, Shining In The Darkness, Resident Evil

Others: Digital Pinball, Sega Ages, Loaded

The Saturn spits out several types of video. I think an S-Video cable was made. IIRC it has RGB outputs in the socket, but no cable was made. Your best bet, comparing cost to quality, would be composite video, IMO.

Games:
Virtual On. This is the mechwarrior/fighting arcade game. Get the NetLink version if you can
Sega Rally Plus. It uses the analog triggers on the 3D pad, the non plus version does not.
Gex, a rather hilarious platform game.
Virtua Cop 1 and 2. The Stunner and Virtua gun are good, but the Nyko Super Cobra trumps them both. And it'll work with your PS1 as well, even on Time Crisis.
Shining the Holy Ark. This is a console style, turn based RPG.
Enemy Zero. This is a survival horror game.
NiGHTS into Dreams. I don't really know how to describe this game, except that it's good.
Christmas NiGHTS. Really, this is more of an add-on to NiGHTS, but still worth the price it commands.
Tempest 2000. A modern remake of the arcade classic.
Worldwide Soccer: Victory Goal Edition. This football game has a good arcade feel and a fast pace to it.

Hardware:
Stunner or Virtua Gun. They are the exact same gun, just in different colors.
Super Cobra. Works with all Saturn and PS1 light gun games, even those that use the GunCon. Requires the composite video output from the Saturn, just like it does the PS1.
3D pad. This was packed in with NiGHTS. It has an analog thumbstick and fully analog triggers.
Twin Stick. A must-have for Virtual On. If you don't get Virtual On, you probably won't need this, even though it works with many other games.
Arcade Racer. Stay away from this expensive pile of junk. Seriously--I think it sucks.

There's a Hydlide for the Saturn?! Anyway, Panzer Dragoon is a god title for the Saturn.

If you get X-Men: CotA, get the Japanese version. I heard the US version is missing frames and is inferior.

Here are some games I recommend:
Galactic Attack/Layer Section (awesome port of Rayforce)
Batsugun
Twinbee, Gradius, and Parodius Deluxe Packs
SEGA Ages Memorial Selection v. 1 (has Pengo, Flicky, Head On, and Up 'n Down)
Vampire Savior (uses the 4m in the Action Replay 4m with fantastic results, known as Darkstalkers 3 on PSX)
Virtua Fighter 2
Virtua Cop series
Sega Rally Plus

Others: Digital Pinball

I looked up Digital Pinball. That game is known as Last Gladiators in the US and it's EU name creates some confusion since there's also a related game (that I heard is even better) named Digital Pinball Necronomicon in Japan.

True, I own the sitdown version of VR and the 32x is much closer. too bad at that.
Try House of The Dead. Excellent!

Sega Ages

It's worth mentioning that this was an ongoing series with a bunch of classics in Japan. After Burner, Space Harrier, and OutRun were separate releases in Japan, but had features the US lacked. There were also others that didn't reach the US, like the Memorial Selection v. 1 I mentioned (there's also a v. 2 with Ninja Princess, Star Jacker, Sega Samurai, Monaco GP, Sindbad Mystery, and SG-1000 Penguin Land), Fantasy Zone, Power Drift, and a few others.

Since there are some games that require an outrageous amount of money, I'll just list some decent (IMO) US games that aren't too expensive and hold up pretty well today:

Powerslave, Duke Nukem 3D, Galactic Attack, Darius Gaiden, any of the Sega arcade ports (i.e., anything but House of the Dead), Scorcher, Amok, Panzer Dragoon 1 or 2, Mystaria (or the renamed version, Blazing Heroes), Last Gladiators Pinball, Hyper 3D Pinball, Clockwork Knight 1 or 2, Mass Destruction, Bust-A-Move 2 or 3, Lunacy, Nights, Sonic Jam, Legend of Oasis, In the Hunt, Herc's Adventure, Earthworm Jim 2, Baku Baku.

Of course, there are plenty other excellent US releases, but they get pricier from there on.. Talking about import selection on the Saturn is a different beast in itself.
