I have a noob question as I am new to the Atari 2600 and beginning my collection so please be patient with my ignorance.

I was looking at some games on eBay and was looking at a lot with a mix of 2600 games and Colecovision games. The seller stated that the Colecovision games would work in an Atari 2600. Is this correct, are some or all colecovision games playable on the 2600?

No, if the games are for a Colecovision, they will not work in an Atari.
However... There are Coleco brand games that were designed for Atari, not the Colecovision. What is the auction?

Typically the Coleco brand games that work on the 2600 are white cased. (If I'm wrong someone correct me...)

Well I'd rather not put up the actual auction to avoid competition, but the game I am interested in is the same as this one (its the same size as the 2600 games but I know that does not mean playable in the 2600):

In all seriousness, I don't have any homebrews right now (budget constraints), but I would very much recommend buying them here. These guys are straight up.

I have discovered that putting my games in nice cases keeps me out of trouble, because they're more presentable. (you can see my collection from the living room)

That game is for the colecovision console. If I were you, I would still consider getting those games and ALSO getting a Colecovision system, once you find one at an acceptable price. Having both the Atari and a Colecovision allows you to play more games from that era, and many of the Colecovision games are significantly better than the Atari versions of those games.

Colecovision games are better quality than Atari games, but don't have the library that Atari has. You can tell an Atari game vs Colecovision game because of where you insert the cartridge. Atari is a perfect rectangle. Colecovision sort of looks like 1/2 of a hexagon, something to this effect (sorry computer graphics). I had to put dots because it ignore the spaces. This is very good to know if you are buying games in the wild.

Anyway, if you don't own an Atari, the Colecovision has an expansion module that plugs into the unit that allows you to play Atari games on it. They worked, but I was never too fond of them.

i disagree that just because it's a colecovision game, that magically makes it better quality. Yes, there were many arcade ports that were superior on the coleco, but the differing color palettes and many other factors don't make it so simple.
