Hi everyone,
I got a haul of 7800 games recently and there are a couple that don't work properly. These are Barnyard Blaster and Tower Toppler. When I play Barnyard Blaster, I switch on the 7800 and I get Blaarrrgh! sort of sound and a mix of colours on the screen. I was told by the person who I purchased this game from that this is because the game is a NTSC copy, but it has a little square black "P" sticker on the back of the cart, which I alway thought meant "PAL". Tower Toppler starts fine but when you select player and difficulty and press start the first level starts and then skips automatically to the beginning of the next level and so on and so forth until it's ran out of levels to skip.
Anyone know anyway of fixing this sort of stuff?
Oddly behaving 7800 carts - any ideas?

The Tower Toppler level-skipping issue is a "hidden feature" of the game. To turn it off and play the game normally, you have to set the left difficulty switch at the front of the console to the right.
I'm not sure what the issue could be with Barnyard Blaster; if the cartridge has a "P" sticker on the back, it should be a PAL cartridge, unless the sticker somehow ended up on an NTSC cartridge.

Have you cleaned the cart contacts with Isopropyl alcohol? If you search AA there are plenty of topics about how to clean carts and motherboard connectors.

Thanks jaybird3rd. I'm new to Atari ownership so I'm not used to these little quirks yet

Yeah gave Barnyard Blaster a quick clean with isopropyl alcohol and a couple of q-tips. It was pretty black but I'm still getting the same results. Sometimes when you power the cart up it seems like it is not being recognised and goes straight through to the built in game.

Never had that problem with Tower Toppler back in the day. However, my old Atari 2600 [I'd have to dig it out to make the determination what type of Sixer it is] never would play Air Sea Battle properly. We went through 6 brand new copies and each of them would not accept input from the controllers...

This probably isn't related to your problem, but I have a Choplifter! cart that acts pretty weird. The game starts fine and runs fine for about a minute, then all of the sudden it "zooms out". All of the graphics get smaller and some of them get really distorted... not to mention the collision detection gets REALLY messed up. The hostages are, in reality, about an inch to the left (or maybe the right, it's been a while) of where there sprite is! You land to pick them up, but tragically squish them, even though you're nowhere near them. But then, just as suddenly as it "zoomed out", it goes back to normal... for a few seconds. It's really strange, I've never seen anything like it before.
I'll have to take some screenshots sometime to show you guys!!
