small problem.
using sio2pc and ape (shareware)
load up ape_warp (per instruction on atarimax)on drive one. drive 2 is my indus gt with source disk
on ape software i clicked file create new blank image and chose the default options.
i fired up the 800xl and chose the my copier option and select source drive as #2 and destination drive as #1
and hit the start button. it goes thru the motions of reading the sectors almost halfway then i get a "WRITE ERROR CHECK DESTINATION DISK THEN PRESS START
what am i doing wrong? instructions seemed simple enough

Not sure, but have you tried overwriting/formating an existing atr image and use that to write to?

Format the atr-------or use a proper sector copier that will format before writing the sectors from the Disk to the Atr. Some disks are protected and can't be copied without special hardware... Make sure the disk and the atr are the same density...

What you are doing sounds correct, from what you have said. I have done this many times over the past few weeks backing up my entire collection to disk images.
You shouldn't have to format the ATR first if you're using the MyCopier program (as you've stated you are).
You don't have the lock box on the right of the disk image line in APE checked, do you? If so, uncheck it so the write-protection is off. Off should be the default though, so I can't imagine this being the case.
The only time I had this issue was when I had an incorrect size ATR made for the disk I was trying to copy. When MyCopier is reading the source disk, look at the top of the screen, and it will tell you the density of the disk you are copying. If it says SINGLE DENSITY, then the default ATR settings you are using are correct. If it doesn't say SINGLE DENSITY, then change your ATR creation settings.
If nothing else, try ProSystem. Be sure APE is shut down (really shut down, from the "file->shut down" selection), or start it from within APE so it shuts itself down. Then, be sure your Atari computer is turned ON if it's physically attached to the SIO chain, even though you won't use it for this. Otherwise, unplug it from the SIO chain. Once it's loaded up, it should be self-explanatory if it senses your drive. Create the .PRO image which should work, and if it doesn't, then I'm not sure what the issue is.

well, i was looking all the post last night trying to find something i could try. I downloaded the aspeqt software and gave that a try. To my suprise it worked very well. I created a new image and ran the my copier program from there and it worked. Strange.
I would still like to figure out what the problem is with APe for windows. But atleast for the moment I'm able to back up all my floppies ( about 1200 of them)

Yeah, that's really weird that one will work but not the other. As much as I love the APE software, I do find that it tends to be a little finicky sometimes and of course the documentation for it is a bit more sparse than it really should be. So, I wouldn't be surprised if you're doing everything right, and it still won't work. Try again later, maybe it will randomly work... that has happened to me a couple times with SIO2USB/APE. APE's User Interface, while acceptable, could certainly be a bit better too.
Either way, glad you found a solution for now.
