Which console do you think had more total games made for it? I'm not talking different titles but the total combined carts ever made. I'm thinking 2600. If so, do you think the 2600 had the most carts made for a game console?

I think monkmonkey means carts ever made not total titles but total carts. In that case I would still go with the NES.

If you don't count variations of games, it's definitely NES. I don't know much about international games, but I know NES has over 800 games in their library, as I've entered them all in MS Access. I personally now have a good 510 of them or so. If you're looking to build an NES library, you can do it relatively easy for a buck a game for at least 300 of the titles. I've acquired the majority of my games for about a buck on both Ebay and in the wild. In fact I'm still getting games for a buck that I need, though now I'm willing to go up to $3-4 to start filling in more holes.

NES by far. 86 million consoles made for the NES. 26 million consoles made for the Atari 2600.

Thanks for the replies. It was just something I was pondering. I thought the E.T. landfill carts would have made it a close call along with the overload of crappy carts that caused the videogame crash. Would that make the NES the undisputed champion of total carts made for a console?

Total amount of games made, like the total production run (amount) right? That is a tough one, atari 2600 had such a long life over seas and sold many pirates, etc.. but I don't think anyone has a clue to the production run of pirated stuff. Yes, games like Pac Man and ET were mass produced as well but I think the overseas aspect is the deciding factor here. For NES are you counting overseas (famicom) releases, if so I would say NES for sure then, the famicom had a crazy long life and had millions and millions of games produced in Japan.

For most carts produced I would still guess it is the NES.

As much as I favour the wonderful 2600 over the craptacular NES, I am sure the NES overall sold a lot more copies of games.
There's no explaining some folks' taste.

Baiscally, back in 1977, computer games was not as widely accepted. It was the hobby of mainly young males and even then it wasn't considered 'mainstream'.
Speaking as a guy who was actually there, that's simply not true. The Atari and video gaming may have been "newfangled inventions" but it was very much mainstream. The Atari was heavily advertised in print media and TV ads. The first time I ever played with an Atari, it was featured in a major display at a Sears, surrounded by dozens of people of all ages. How could it be any more mainstream?
