Hello!

I was surfing the internet last night and came across this article:

http://www.cnn.com/2...ames/index.html

I read the discription of the Air Raid game and realized that I had a copy! I dug into all the storage boxes in my garage to find my 2600 and there it was! I was surprise to find it was worth so much and even more surpised to find that there was so lttle known about it. Thought I would add my information:

I am the orginal owner. I remember having my mother buy me the game back in the mid 80s. We were shopping at a Tuesday Morning discount store at the corner of Arkansas Ln and Medline Dr in Arlington Texas. It was in an unopened white box with no writing on the cover. I don't remember if I could see the cartridge through a window or if it fliped open but I only knew it was a 2600 game because of the shape. I remember thinking how cool it was with the blue "T" handle.
I am 99.9% sure there was no manuel that came with this game.

I plan on selling this on Ebay in the next week. If anyone has any other suggestions on where to sell this let me know because I am sure Ebay charges a hefty fee.

Here is a picture with a date stamped lotto ticket so everyone doesn't think I am making this up:

Thanks!

Very awesome I will be adding you to the list of Air Raid owners known to exist.

P.S.
It is now interesting how many have popped up in Texas. It is either a Texas release or a just south of the border release IMO.

Find the box and 'surprised' won't even begin to describe it. The lotto ticket with all winning numbers might be worth LESS!

Not to nick pick but you have it listed as me buying it used. It was actualy still unopened when I got it. Tuesday Morning is a close out store that buys surplus new items and sells them. Same as Ross and Steinmart if you are familier with those stores. And man, I wish I kept the box!!!

Did you know it was called Air Raid prior to reading the article? Do you remember approximately how many were at the Tuesday Morning store when you bought yours? Thanks :)

Grats on finding a rare game like that!

That's the best thing about the press coverage that 'rare games' have gotten recently due to the whole Stadium Event situation -- the media covers the rare games being sold and talked about, people read the articles, get inspired for one reason or another to dig through their own games, find they have rare stuff also, and list it for sale. The owners make money and collectors get a chance to own rare games like this one. Win all around. :)

If I might offer a suggestion, take a look at the recent Stadium Event listings on EBay -- the ones that sold for big bucks. They are very good examples to follow when you list your Air Raid on there. LOTS of pictures, detailed information with as much as you know, be willing to answer questions and ship overseas, and hold out till the end of the sale! ;)

When you do list it, put a thread in the Marketplace forum here also letting people know. A lot of people will be interested in this.

Hope you stick around and good luck to you! :D

This is fascinating! Stories like this are one of the reasons I love the hobby. I was reading the same article just this morning and thought "hmm, wonder what this will bring out of the woodwork..."

Congrats on your (re) find!

You may want to consider auctioning the cartridge on GameGavel (http://www.gamegavel.com) if you don't like fees. I am sure the owner of that site would love your business!

He WOULD get the most exposure and views on EBay, though, and very probaly the highest price.

Sounds like you're the first confirmed ORIGINAL owner of a Air Raid -- the article needs to be updated!

No I did not know then name of it until I read the article. If it wasn't for the description of the cart I would never have known I had the game.
This is going back a looooong way but I am pretty sure it was the only one. It was on a table with a bunch of other random toys. Back then, Tuesday Morning was more like a Goodwill in that they just had everything lying out. Everything was new but not stacked away nicely on shelves or anything.

I find it interesting that it says only 12 games were known to exist. Me thinks the writer took a look at my thread,or at least got information from someone who took a look at my thread. So in some very small infinitesimal way I actually contributed to this article. Yippee! I just got my 15 milliseconds of fame! :D

Amazing! Still makes me wonder what the actual NAME of this game is! Either way I like it and it's fun to play on Stella. Much better than Air Raid.
Good luck on your auction! I hope you make enought jack to keep you outta working for a while.

Wow, wow, wow!!! Congratulations!

"The name was based on the gameplay, which is similar to Atlantis and Missile Command, and by the picture on the label of a city being attacked by flying saucers, jets, and helicopters."

I am not sure if the gameplay is similar to those games (maybe somewhat) but it's sounds are copied directly from Space Jockey (U.S. Games).

Wow, those articles are fascinating! To think, not only do we have the first confirmed case of someone buying the game new, but in a box also! Lot of other good and interesting information there, I thought both articles were well done.

Thanks for the info! One more question, do you remember what year you bought it?

The information about the box is more exciting than the game itself! :D

But doesn't correspond with the original box story, right? :ponder:

Interesting. A guy who wrote a letter to the 'Atari 2600 Connection' newsletter years ago also claimed that the game came in a gatefold box that "opened like a book".

Yup! But two "evidences" of a box are better than none!!! ;)

It was either in '84 or early '85 because I remember the family got an Atari 800 in late '85 and I stopped playing the 2600 then. I beleive I still got the invoice for the 800 boxed up somewhere. If so that might help me narrow it down some more. I let you know.

hmmmmm.... Atari 800... wonder if the old Basic and Assembly carts for that are worth anything.. HAHA! just kidding..

Anyone on here live near you and can test it out? Someone is bound to want to see it in person. Especially if you don't have an Atari, you'll want someone to get you screenshots if you auction it to prove the game still works.

Congrats. - Air Raid is a huge Atari mystery and a holy grail, what a great find (and from an original owner).

Well, I now have the 2600 and 800 unpacked in the living room. I am going to try and hook the 2600 up to my HDTV. I'll post here if I can get the game working. I have about 2 day window till my wife makes me put it all away. :)

Anyone got a HDMI cable that works on the 2600? HAHA!
