I'm doing a videogame console installation at the upcoming National Haunter's Convention in Valley Forge, PA in late April 2010.

http://www.nationalh...convention.com/

I am going to put up various consoles from classic to modern all with appropriately themed games.

I'd like to bring the 2600, but I am not too familiar with any titles that would work. They need to be in the horror genre but also fun to play.

If nothing good exists for the 2600 how about the 5200 or the 8-bit computers?

suggestions please...

Well Mark there is the Haunted House,Frankenstein's Monster,Ghost Manor,Halloween and Texas Chainsaw Massacre plus several homebrews with horror themes out there for the Atari 2600.

The Atari 7800 has Midnight Mutants too i don't think the 5200 really has any games like this as far as i can remember.

It's a text adventure/interactive fiction so I can't guarantee that it's exactly what you're looking for but the Atari 8bits had a game made by Infocom that was called "The Lurking Horror". Pretty fun little text adventure!

I agree with Frankenstein's Monster. It's losing animation would fit the theme well.

kewl, thanks guys, great suggestions. I'll be checkin' 'em out on my Harmony cart and then trying to score the actual carts. are any of them super rare or hard to get or are they pretty common?

Guess I'll check the rarity guide too eh?

thanks!!

Haunted House is common, Frankenstein's Monster is a bit rare and usually can be had for $15-20. Halloween and Texas Chainsaw are probably too pricey for a convention. Plus you'll not want them stolen. The 7800 Midnight Mutants is rather rare to come by, take a look on Ebay. Last one I sold sealed was for $40. Not doubting that one of the two up there was mine. Ghost Manor is easier to come by if you get the double ender with Spike's Peak. Can be found for under $10 at times.

I just want to thank you folks for turning me on to Frankenstein's Monster. I really feel it is one of the all time greatest Atari 2600 games that I have ever played. The kill screen is really cool on my huge 52" Plasma with the big woofer on my surround sound coming out of my A/V modded 2600.

What a great game and it is my pick for the Haunter's Convention for the 2600. Does anyone have an extra cart for sale or trade?

I always hated the damn bat screen, but other than that, I really liked it. As for extras, I only have one, sorry.

The bat screen is interesting, I actually didn't realize those were bats until you just said that, hehe. I kind of wish there was more to it and that there was a third screen but I sure like the Pitfall-like action.

haha, the funny thing is, the first time I encountered it, I did not realize I had to move up the screen so I was staying stationary and just dodging them and doing really well but then after a bit I realized nothing was happening and I moved up and then saw how to progress. The bat screen is kind of superfluous to the gameplay, I would have much rather seen another kind of level.

Are there any hacks of the game that change it up? Might be neat to have it go from the pitfall-esque screen to an Adventure or maze-like level.
