I've been playing pac-man spot the difference here's what I found:

"enhanced" version has attract mode, intermissions, dark blue walls, different dot munching sound, ghosts are much harder, ghost munch sound much louder...

The scoring difference on level 1 was driving me crazy, I even counted the dots... it turn out that the fruit is worth 4,100 every time, so you get more points for this making a theoretical maximum of 2560 dots + 8200 cherries + 12000 ghosts = 22760 so if you play the harder enhanced version you can get more points on the early screens but it is much harder. I'll stay on it as a handicap vs NTSC :)

If anyone gets the max score on either version's screen 1 (14,960/22,760) then you'll win a bonus point :)

new table
1st atariksi 293,120 12pts+1bonus pt
2nd Divya16 94,840 11pts
3rd mightymage 89,000 10pts
4th littleman jack 77,090 9pts
5th Cebus Capucinis 52,670 8pts
6th Preppie! 50,310 7pts
7th therealbountybob 48,600 6pts
8th roadrunner 38,710 5pts
9th a8isa1 37,450 4pts
10th goochman 25,600 3pts
11th bluecat 17,300 1pts

any corrections please post

Is that first screen max score w/o dieing?

On this ROM I was playing, it's 50 points for power pills, 2560 for all the dots, 100 for each cherry, and 3000 if you eat all the monsters (1600+800+400+200).

You can banana-skin as many times as you like (up to 3!) I've probably been playing too many versions to count the dot's correctly think I missed the power pills out of my calculation for the "enhanced ver"! Talking of which I did a bit more research and you get 4100 on levels 1 and 2 cherry and strawberry, then it's ok for a couple of levels or so then you get 1000pts less than you should per fruit/atarilogo/key with means you get ZERO for the greengage? thing :!:

[edit - turns out this is just my buggy copy!! kjmann's post #17 link here has datasoft xex version of enhanced pac-man with correct scoring]

I just played the kjmann's link pac-man and I got even a higher score. Cherries were 100 points in that one.

No book for me-- just too many years of playing (including arcade). That enhanced version is rubbish-- it's actually easier than the original Atari version. I find the intermissions distracting but I can see a use for them in the arcade where there's no pause button.

I got 14860 on first screen max-- can't get a perfect score after a few tries.

So close and yet still so far :P

That's strange as there's no way it's easier over here maybe to do with PAL; I can get way further on the file version from the original cart (see my 94K 2nd go) :ponder:

Pac-man is one game that I think PAL is a hindrance rather than a help. The slower speed of pac-man seems to make it harder (imo)

Monster patterns are a bit different in the new version but nothing extraordinarily difficult. I would say the new version feels slower as you go into higher levels. I got my perfect score for 1st screen:

I agree Preppie re speed, used to like playing on key level to see how far I could get. Been playing enh ver lots and managed to get to 2nd Atari level but then I got tempted for the nice logo and that was that :x I'm sure they guard this one extra well ;) Anyone know what's happening to the ghost in the 2nd animation he seems to splat, break up and then look up :?:

If you want to hang onto 3rd place overall and stop Cebus getting away from you in 2nd there's still
1 day to go in the bonus round ;)

Here's my latest score using 8K cart. I get over 130K easily on the Datasoft version whereas this one took quite some time.

On your planet, do you also get sunlight as much as earth?

What's the name of your planet whose time zone calculations are off by 2 weeks minus half an hour?
