I think it depends on what attitude you have when you approach something like this. If you think of it as a fun, quirky little party game that involves some characters from Pac-Man, it's easier to accept it. But if you look at it through the tint of nostalgia glasses, you'll find nothing but rage and dismay because of the changes. It's sort of like a glass half full/half empty thing. The game itself appears to be relatively entertaining, though perhaps not pushing any particular envelopes of the genre, but certainly a goofy little party game that's fun for friends, no matter what characters are in it.
I'll probably end up buying it, despite the fact that I don't particularly like what they've done with my Pac-Man I remember.
I hear ya and don't really disagree with your view.
My problem is that I'm old and cantankerous and while not resisting ALL change, I really hate to see instantly recognized icon's messed with. Whether its turning the dot muncher into a party game or putting fried jalapeno's on a Whopper or removing Pluto from the list of planets, don't mess with legends!!!
But in all seriousness, what really bugs me about Pac-Man Party is that the Xbox360 and PS3 are getting PAC-MAN CE DELUXE as their birthday gift, but the Wii gets..... another fricking party game. Pac-Man CE is a great game that I had lots and lots of hours of fun and will buy this Deluxe version upon release. But instead of bringing CE Deluxe to the Wii, Namco-Bandai decides to release another game that just furthers the reputation of the Wii as a "kiddie system".
Xbox & PS3 users can play the maze type game that defines Pac-Man, while Wii owners get to shake their Wiimote & Nunchuk as fast as they can in order to fire a rocket the farthest in hopes of winning a square on the monopoly board to help Mr. Cookie..... oh joy.
Maybe PMP will be a great game.... maybe it will be a huge seller..... but I'm too old and cantankerous to even allow PMP in my house.
