Important Note: This weeks competition is over and no further scores will be accepted.

Talk about a fight over water rights! Those cranky Crabs are really serious about driving the Ducks from their once quiet little pond. Imagine, Crabs taking to the air armed with bricks and bombs. Those crazy critters are trying to knock our web-footed friend right out of the water. Luckily, Deadly Duck has a few tricks of his own. His gun barrel bill can unleash a bevy of Crab-cracking bullets at a moment's notice. Look out! Here comes another brick. Duck!

Scoring Points in Deadly Duck
  • Shoot a Brick - 50, 100, 200, 500 points (depending on level)
  • Shoot a Crab - 30 points
  • Shoot a Dragonfly - 10 points

Hints and Tips

The Manual

As always, you really should read the manual. In case you don't have the manual, AtariAge has a typed copy and a scanned copy available online. Here is the hint it provides:
  • Practice shooting bricks on Level 1 until you can hit them fairly easily. Be careful, since attempting to shoot a brick can be dangerous if you miss. After you've developed some confidence in your ability to shoot bricks, start a new game, but this time go through the first three levels before trying to shoot bricks. Now the bricks are worth 500 points and you should have a few more Ducks in reserve.

oyamafamily

  • On later levels, DON'T shoot a dragonfly indiscriminately. If you do this, the bombs can drop toward Deadly Duck.
  • There's no time limit to complete each level. So, BE PATIENT to try to destroy 8 crabs per screen.

satan165

Well after many more plays, I can say that some amount of leeching is part of the game.

Once you get to level 4 and beyond, the first thing you have to do is 'thin the herd'. Shoot some indiscrimite shots into the crowd and you'll randomly kill off some of the crabs. Once it's down to half try and aim (as best as you can, at moving targets) because you want to leave the crabs highest up on the screen around.

If you are going to do some Leo Daniels like Asteroids leeching, you want it on your terms.
If you are accidentally left with one crab dropping bricks from a lower level, just kill him off and start a new screen, its not worth it.

Well, hell! Now I am pissed off again. I won a lot of 2600 games on eBay with Deadly Duck and had to get a refund from Paypal 'cause the deadbeat never sent it. I prefer not to use the emulator for HSC and also I would have had some practice in. Damn bastard!! I guess since it is the last game of the season, I will settle and make a booty call to Stella. Quack, Quack!! Morgan

Well, I've never seen this game before, so I'll kick things off with a never-seen-this-game-before score.

well after many more plays i can say that some amount of leeching is part of the game

once you get to level 4 and beyond the first thing you have to do is 'thin the herd'
way too much going on to keep it together
shoot some indiscrimite shots into the crowd and youll randomly kill off some
once its down to half try and aim (as best as you can, at moving targets) because you want to leave the crabs highest up on the screen around

if you are going to do some leo daniels like astroids leeching, you want it on your terms
if you are accidentally left with one crab dropping bricks from a lower level, just kill him off and start a new screen, its not worth it

this game reminds me quite a bit of communist mutants from space, in that you have to aggressively go after the enemy to get the bricks, as you do to simply shoot them in the other game

great game all around, im playing too aggressively now and my games have shortened. need to get this game on my harmony and play on the actual console. defiantely going to take down that number #3 TG score and then some

I would tend to agree with this. I may even go further and say that there is nothing you can do in this game that fits the definition of point leeching.

The manual recommends shooting the bricks as a game strategy after getting to the 4th level.

For me, shooting the bricks is really the skill part of the game. When I try to shoot the crabs, I feel lucky when I hit one. They're so unpredictable that I just shoot close to them and hope for the best.

When I shoot a brick, I feel like that's something I accomplished by anticipating when and where the brick will fall, avoiding the dragonfly bombs, avoiding shooting the last crab, and avoiding having the brick smash my duck into feathered smithereens.

It also means there are two legitimate strategies to choose from. Do I try to keep clearing screens to build up a number of extra ducks or do spend my time trying to take advantage of the higher risk/reward of targeting the bricks, knowing that means less extra ducks overall? If I'm down to my last duck, do I try to clear the level to get an extra duck for a cushion?

I know that point leeching can be a gray area in a lot of Atari games. This is just my thoughts on this particular one.

I would like to place EXTRA CHALLENGE to become this HSC contest more exciting. It's called DEADLY DUCK TIE-BREAK.

SETTINGS FOR TIE-BREAK: Game 4 (Starts on Level 4 WITH 6 dragonflies) and 1 LIFE ONLY!

HOW IT WORKS?
1) Players who roll the effective score on REGULAR GAME, indicated by Ze_ro (Game mode: DEFAULT - Starts on Level 1 without dragonflies) will be QUALIFIED to DEADLY DUCK TIE-BREAK. For example:
Player A - 100,000 points;
Player B - 100,000 points;
Player C - 100,000 points;
Player D - 99,400 points... and so fourth.
In this example, players A, B, and C will be qualified to TIE-BREAK!

2) For TIE-BREAK, your score attempt ends if you lose your FIRST LIFE! After losing this life, DON'T MOVE YOUR CONTROLLER. Screenshots are encouraged. Make a note of your score after the loss of your First Life.
