Didn't quite make it. I'll just have to be happy with this score and look forward to next season.

havent been around a console all week since i put up my initial scores. even tried downloading an emu and playing with the keyboard since i knew i could better my score (without a joystick i was helpless)
but im home now....threw down a few games but was stuck just under 50K, i was shooting for 60 but now thanks to scrabbler im shooting for 64K

alright, on about the 10th serious attempt of the night i have improved my score
i think the best piece of advice is one that oyamafamily brought up early in the thread, one which i disregarded and now realize i misunderstood -- it also touches upon the leeching discussion we had earlier
i dont know the strategy the 'rollers' in this thread used, but i scored my initial ~56K by getting level 4 down to 1 or 2 crabs then just shooting as many bricks as i could. i read the 'special rule' above and thought it was nonsense -- leeching HAD to be the only way to score big
the limiting factor with this is that the game is quite generous of course by giving you 500 points/brick, but its honestly more generous (and important) that it gives you a free life every level
and you WILL get caught between a 'brick and a hard place' (like a wall, or another brick) and get showered with dragonfly shot or any of a few other scenarious where you will waste lives and end your game early
this was the first game i traveled far beyond level 4, i think i made it to 6 or 7. the crabs move side to side faster but the bricks fall just as fast. maybe after further levels that too changes but i bet it doesnt
also proud to have used my shiny new harmony cart on this one! (forgive the shoddy screen quality, the a/v jack on my 2600 is screwy)

Special Rules: DON'T LEECH the score in excess (in other words, DON'T STAY on the same level).

This is how I did it. On my roll, I finished on level 5. Down to my last duck.
The key, don't die

indeed, perfection is the only alternative
i commend you - i took the simpler way out and it actually improved my score, i was convinced previously that i would need to take your route
this game summed up for me what the HSC is all about - i would likely never be interested enough to play this game more then a few times (I was totally unfamiliar with it previously) and not only have i played it now, i was interested enough to come back to it at the end of the week and great discussion involving strategy comes up as well. excellent all around.

Damn, too late, but I rolled it!! a total of 109,570. Morgan
Update: I guess I did make it in time; I thought it was 1am East instead of central. Woo Hoo!!!
Second Update: BTW, this was my fifth or sixth try last night, and what did the trick for me was less time shooting bricks on each level. I got to level ten or eleven and the higher levels provided much more frequent bricks, which made it easier.

Hope to see you in the next season, starting today lol.
I agree, not only does the HSC competition make you get your best scores EVER. but
like you said... by playing consistantly one game, it makes you appreciate all the game has to offer! Learn also from HSC's the many new tips and play strategies never known previously.
Deadly Duck, isn't really to my liking but I understand how the gameplay works now, and got farther then I ever did before.
