I love light gun games so I finally got around to trying Dead Space Extraction on my Wii. Is it me or does the aiming in this game absolutely suck? I've tried everything and can't get the aiming configured accurately at all. I hardly ever use my Wii so I don't know if this is normal or not. Plus the aiming isn't very steady at all. The light gun on my dreamcast is way more accurate than this. Am I doing something wrong here or what? :?

Yes, aiming in all the Wii's light gun games simply sucks ass. The biggest draw for the wii for me, was light guns, but you aren't actually shooting at anything on the screen, your just aiming in the general direction. Honestly they'd have done better to ax the stupid aiming thing, and gone with an analog stick. In the meantime, I'll stick to REAL light gun games that actually shoot at the screen, rather than being used as a fancy laser pointer.

Unfortunately, without the lightgun aspect that I was so excited about, the wii will stay in the closet unplayed, because, while it can do Gamecube stuff, I have a gamecube that does a better job of that, and doesn't need a gimmick just to pass the damn start up screen.

More people need to be told about the wii "light gun" and how it "works" I can guarantee that I would have just saved the money, had I known what a piece of shit it was.

You want light guns, get a NES, or many of the gun games in the PnP isle of your store (make sure it's a "CRT ONLY" game, and not a "universal" game, as the universal ones work exactly the same as the wii)

I played the heck out of Dead Space: Extraction and never noticed a problem w/ aiming. Then again, for all Wii "light gun" games I use the wiimote more like a mouse than a light gun. I don't really try to point at the screen an aim like a gun.

I loved this game, though. There are some really cool scenes in it, and i like that it had a decidedly non-arcade pacing and feel, which makes it somewhat unique in the genre.

I really loved the game, but yes the Wii controller sucks badly as a 'light gun' As mentioned above its more like a floaty mouse pointer.

Still the game rocked though!

Yea, unfortunately I see now that the Wii isn't accurate at all. Now that I realize that the game is playable, but it doesn't really have that light gun feel that I was looking for. Unfortunately I just bought a bunch of Wii light gun games... :x

Did I seriously miss this information or is this like the Wii's dirty little secret? I can't believe I have heard nothing about this before....

I wonder how accurate the PS3 move will be. I'm not going to run out and buy that blindly like I did with these Wii games.

Hm... I beat it half a dozen times not noticing any problems with aiming, so I guess you just suck at it! :P

You are not aiming.

You are moving the gun in the needed direction relative to the position of the reticule displayed on the screen.

That is not aiming.

Try aiming the gun at a target on the screen and then tell me your results. Or try playing a real light gun game instead. The game seems very good so far and I'm a huge Dead Space fan. But the Wii's light gun is not a gun at all. If you don't see that I don't know what to tell you. I've been playing light gun games since the '70s and this is not a light gun game...

In light gun games you aim at the target. Sight down the barrel of the gun at the screen and tell me where you are actually aiming versus where the Wii is displaying the reticule.

So then it works differently than how you've expected it to work. Simple solution: Adjust to how it actually works instead of insisting it to work any other way you want it to, because it's already working fine as is.

Sorry but I find that to be a stupid response. Fine you like it. I get it. Personally I think a gun should fire where it's pointed. I guess I'm funny that way.

A Wiimote isn't a lightgun, even when you wrap it in funny plastic. And the technology of it doesn't allow what you want, so you can either accept that or just sell the equipment again - lamenting or complaining won't help it.

I guess you should just shut down this forum then. What the hell is the point if we shouldn't comment and/or critique anything. Or is it only complements are excepted here? And what do you mean by help? Maybe someone else who is a huge light gun game fan will read this and might think twice about buying games they won't be happy with.

Or just rename this the Wii fanboy forum...

Just saying that the problem is on your end, not with the hardware. The game was built around the Wiimote from ground up and it apparently works fine for almost everyone else.

Guess that's why it sold millions of copies. Oh wait...

Actually it is a good game. It's just that the Wii's aiming sucks imo and makes it so I don't get my beloved light gun feel. That's my problem.

But I don't think the ad hominem attacks were appropriate. I was stating my opinion of the Wii's light gun and the fact that it's aim is off. Saying I suck at it or I don't know how to play it are not valid responses imo...

Just my 2 cents.

That was just a harmless tongue-in-cheek comment, with an appropriate chosen smiley even. Maybe try getting some sleep or avoid posting during the full moon... :P

Put your sensor bar under your TV, not on top of it. This should increase the overall accuracy of your Wiimote, esp in light gun games.

There are a couple of games that allow you to calibrate the wiimote so it is more accurate. Ghost Squad comes to mind. However, games like Dead Space and RE: umbrella Chronicles while fun don't really play like light gun games. Its too bad too because they would be better with a true light gun.

The "unlike a light gun game" is what I like about it.

There are plenty of other games like House of the Dead Overkill that I can play when I need that more arcade feel. DS:E was trying for something different--it might not suit everyone, but it is one of my favorite games on the Wii.

Gunblade NY//LA Machineguns works great on the Wii. I do recommend a Wii Zapper, or similar device so you get a more "light gun" feel. It feel weird using the Wiimote by itself.

My problem is not with the game but rather with the Wii itself. I think the game is quite good, but the Wii is very poor at light gun games in my opinion. Using the Wii is like using a laser pointer. If you're ok with that you will have no issue, but if you actually want to play this like a light gun game you will find the Wii accuracy terrible. put the Wii remote in a gun holder hold the gun in front of you and aim down the "barrel" of the gun. You'll find you are nowhere near the aiming reticule. I just hate that...

Are you playing on a HD TV?

I noticed that the Wii lightgun games suck on my LCD HD TV, but play very well on my older tube TV.

I wonder if it has to do with the aspect ration and the Wii's lack of HD support (Upscales from 480p).

Just a thought...
