Anyone else playing this one? I just started it today and so far it's not bad. The voice acting is horrendous to the point of making me cringe whenever someone opens their mouth (which don't match the words anyway) and the graphics are decidedly Gamecube quality, but the battle system is nice. It reminds me of a turn based Tales game (not surprising since they're made by some of the same people). I think I may turn off the voices and go full subtitles, I suppose then it really would remind me of a Gamecube game. :)

I tried the game, played for about 2 hours or so, and gave up.

Hope I'm not spoiling anything with this post..... I got to the first enemy boss (can't recall his name) and found you have to beat him twice. I beat him the first time without a whole lot of trouble but the 2nd battle became a hopeless struggle. He was Lvl 13 and my three characters were all Lvl 9. He got three attacks each round (and sometimes it appeared he got a fourth) and did massive spell damage to all my characters. Even with a fire shield on my two fighters and allowing the Diva to only heal, he was doing well over 150hp of damage per round per character and I just couldn't heal enough or do enough damage per round to defeat him.

My only solution was to go back and grind away a couple of levels and hope to beat him that way. I thought about the time it would take to acquire the levels and whether I'd have to do that with every Boss battle and just said to heck with it.

My impressions: I really liked the weapon and spell system they came up with. The battle system was good, especially having to figure out how you would spend the AP. The story was so-so. The voices were bad and some of the dialog was just plain awful. Music was okay. Graphic's weren't HD but I didn't think they detracted from the game at all.

The game isn't awful-terrible by any stretch of the imagination, especially if one likes JRPG's. But I guess I'm just not in the mood for a "grind fest" game at the present and not sure when or if I'll return to playing it.

That would be Deathchanter (or whatever his name is). Yeah the second time he's rough, I think I was level 10 and barely beat him. It's odd because the normal battles are easy but the bosses are insanely over powered, especially early on. IIRC you don't actually have to get him down to 0 HP, just below 1100 because an event occurs and ends the fight. I got my special attack meter (forget the name) up to 100% and just kept using those attacks on him. Still, it's a hard fight.

I finally got around to buying this. I've only played for an hour, and here are my thoughts:

The voice acting is horrible. It makes a bad first impression and keeps on being bad. However, I've played games where the voice acting is worse. I'm willing to keep the voices on and see if things get better.

The graphics get what they're trying to convey across and don't go a step beyond that duty. I had recently toyed around with Grandia II (very early Dreamcast and PS2 game) and I have to say the visuals were about in that range. However, the game does make the extra effort to support widescreen, so it's not a total loss.

The game reminds me of a Tales game. I think that anyone who has played any of the Tales games will find this game easy to adapt to. However, the combat is completely different. The engine itself is straightforward and seems interesting enough.

The game got me into playing quickly, by immediately dropping me into battle with a dragon. It followed that up by a short and sweet bit of exposition and then put me through the starter dungeon. My main character isn't a total doofus, and the designers understand that a main character needs to appear competent and knowledgable. Tutorials have been painless enough so far, and seem spaced out neatly. So, the game avoids the common pitfalls and was actually entertaining instead of tedious to play for Chapter 1.
