A guy named PSO Archive stumbled across a couple of Eidos prototypes for the Dreamcast, including System Shock 2 (evidently an early precursor to Bioshock) and Thief. He hasn't been able to get these to run on a Dreamcast, but perhaps you can assist him with that! Just contact him from the address at the bottom of the page... he'd really appreciate the help.

Yeah they've been talking about this on the Assembler forums for awhile now. Apparently he wants to do this himself, but he's looking for help/info on how to do it. I had no clue either game was planned for the DC.

Both SS2 and Thief are favorites of mine. In fact, I started a thread praising System Shock in the classic thread a few days ago, guys. ;)

The Bioshock games were made by many of the same people who worked on the Thief and System Shock games.

I knew both games were in the works for the DC but they were canceled due to piracy concerns and the crumbling market. Aperently both of them were semi playable. Glad they found them. :)

just found out about this awesomeness myself... there are some vids on you tube... anyone hear about any progress being made with these? I had heard there was a playable system shock 2 gd-rom out there somewhere, long ago... I wonder if these are earlier or later betas...

What the hell? I'd never heard of either of these projects before today. The Thief series is probably my #1 PC game series. Does it run on any emulator at all?

wow, SS2 and Thief, now both of those would be so epic on the DC. i love Thief (own it for PC). it has been a favorite ever since i played it from a old demo disk before it came out.

The files are public and what can be played is available. Problem is they only got about as far as porting some of the game and what is playable is in an extremely alpha state.

You won't ever be playing Thief for sure due to the state the files are in. SS2 won't ever get any further than it is unless someone gets the complete source code and takes the time to finish the entire game (probably upwards of a decade).

:(

Well, that's a disappointment. I suppose it'd be sorta fun to see what those two games look like on the Dreamcast at least, even in an unfinished state. Thing is I love me some PC to console ports, I always find them really interesting.

I don't know if anyone has released self-booting images but you can definitely play the unfinished versions on a retail Dreamcast.

Dig through here and you'll probably find what you're looking for, or at least mouth watering tidbits.
