Halloween Tournament: Bugs

This will be a 13 game tournament and 13 days in duration.

Nominate a list of 10 games that have insects in them. If it has an insect, it is eligible. For example, although not prominent, Frogger has a fly that when landed on will give you bonus points. Therefore, Frogger is eligible.

Note that if Centipede is nominated, we will play the 3 Minute Timed variation.

Also note that because of the violent nature of the game, Chiller should not be nominated and will not be played.

Because Halloween is an evil holiday, Satan's Hollow and Satan of Saturn will be included in the tournament.

Games will be added to the tournament based on the total number of nominations beginning highest to lowest.

Nomination tiebreakers:

  1.
  2. If a game has not been played previously in the history of the AtariAge Arcade/MAME HSC, that game will be chosen.
  3. Member vote.

Games that have multiple nominations that do not make the cut in the Halloween Tournament will be added to the Holiday Season Tournament in December.

If a pool of 13 games has not been reached by Sunday, October 17, the forum leader will flesh out the tourney with the usual "left-of-center" titles.

Competition begins Tuesday, October 19 @ noon EDT and ends Monday, November 1 @ 3AM EDT

Are there insects in Pac-Man Plus? The games nominated have to have insects in them so if any of ones you nominated do not you can resubmit. I see where you're going with the ghosts theme but the theme is "insects" - I'm not positive about the other games in your list...

OK, yes I was thinking ghosts and snakes ... I'll try to find other games then.

Right now we have 13 games nominated for the tourney. I will take noms until October 11 and publish the lineup October 12th so that everyone has a week of practice. I will make that a standard practice of announcing the lineup 7 days prior to the start of tournaments.

If the lineup comes down to a vote, the poll will be published on the 12th with voting concluding on the 18th.

If you're a player, please submit your nominations because this HSC is about the players!

Nominations are now closed.

With War of the Bugs being a Centipede variant and the inclusion of Millipede (which has not yet been played in the HSC) in the tournament I think it would be best to move Centipede to the Holiday Tourney. I'd also like to move Galaga '88 over to the Holiday Tourney because it has been played so frequently.

So, to fill the final two spots in the tournament I have four titles in the topic poll for you to select two from. The top two vote getters will be included in the tourney. The two titles that do not make the cut will be added to the Holiday Season Tourney. Voting will conclude Sunday, October 17 at noon EDT.

Those games are:

Space Launcher

A space-themed game where the player controls a ship at the bottom of the screen which must fire at attacking enemy ships and destroy them.

http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=9673

Starship I

You pilot the Starship 1, from a first-person point of view, avoiding planets and shooting enemy space ships for different point values. Achieving 3500 points before time runs out earns you extended play in 'hyperspace'.

http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=9782

Bomb Bee

You control a paddle that must rebound a ball into the colorized bricks and pop-bumpers.

http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=7179

Barrier

The player attempts to reach the top of the grid without being hit by the computer enemies. When the top is reached, you scroll 'around' to the bottom and begin again.

http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=7018

Lastly, games that did not receive multiple nominations will be added to the respective players's game request queue.

Even though it's a bit heavy on the "slide n shoots," I think this is shaping up to be yet another great tournament. There's a nice blend of popular and obscure titles to make it fairly competitive.

I can tell you that the Bubbles AtariAge record is going down - easily...I think the DK3 record is secure but my son and I will both be bumping up our scores - no problem...
