There's a lot of players gunning for the record right now. It wouldn't surprise me if it's broken one more time this year.

There's so much point pressing going on at this point that I have to believe at some point the record isn't going to change hands as frequently as it has this year.

Ok. i guess i haven't been paying attention to this. BILLY MITCHELL had the record?

That's really an interesting coincidence of a name.

No worries, I probably will be saying that when my Donkey Kong 3 record gets broken! ;) To be honest, I am honored that you even thought of me while reading this article. Congrats though goes out to Steve Wiebe. Yet again the man comes out of nowhere, and breaks the record.

You know I have only held the Donkey Kong 3 record now for a little over 3 months. But since that time I have seen the Donkey Kong record broken twice, and the Donkey Kong Junior record broken twice as well. It makes me realize that I have been very fortunate to even hold this record for even that small of a time period.

Loved King of Kong... However, I don't think Billy is as bad a guy as they made him out to be. Not sure what the deal was when Billy ignored Steve in the arcade (from the movie), but who knows... Maybe he didn't know who he was?

Anyway, I don't care. I like Steve and am glad he has the record again. I bet his wife misses him though (being that he probably spends more time with the DK machine than her!)

I am sure that movie had all kinds of misrepresented information but thats okay, movies like that being 100% true would probably be boring ;)

Last I heard the record was held by some no name from New York. Guess I've been out of the loop. Ah, Steve Weibe. Hell of a guy.

Dr. Hank Chien from New York was the previous record holder before Billy Mitchell. In speaking with Hank and another DK player last Saturday, they think it is possible that the record could change hands one more time before the year is over. When I asked how much point pressing can be done they said "up to about 1.15 million."

I want to see more of the arcade sluts that waited to see them when they came in the 80's for the photo shoot.

WAR WEIBE!

Mostly anyone that isn't Billy. The stuff I have seen with Chien was also cool. Seems like a very personable guy too.

All this said I think Billy gets the record again before the year ends. There is a good chance he already has this beaten actually. His habbit of breaking a score by just enough to take the top spot gets on my nerves. Break the record and set the bar as high as you can. I guess he thinks of himself as Babe Ruth calling his shot when he does this, but it is wearing thin for me and many of the people I talk to about this stuff.

As a side note, I was looking for the image from KoK today with all the levels laid out on screen. They are talking about the elevator boards in the movie and this images comes up to highlight the 22 elevator boards in the game as they speak. Does anyone have a link to that image or one like it. I have look for that thing on and off since I watched the film the first time because I thought it would make a cool back ground for my work machine. Help anyone?

My girlfriend and I watched King of Kong earlier tonight.

After it was over I checked Twin Galaxies and was astonished the number one spot was just taken a week ago, then after a quick AA search I realize this is like a 3 way battle that has been going on for years!!

Also earlier when I looked up DK I achecked the DK3 scores because I had told my GF an AA member had the high score on it. (My favorite Kong game)
Looks like Homer is still the King of that Kong!

Good Lord! This record changes hands more often than I change my socks! Posted Image

Ah, in seriousness I liked King of Kong and it's good to see the battle continues on. Not for the fight, of course, but it helps put a face on our little hobby here and put it out into the public. Generates more interest in the great old classics of yesteryear, which grows the retrogaming community and keeps it thriving, and that's always a good thing!

Just holy crap! Way to go Hank!

I play alot of Donkey Kong, and have for the last 6 months or so. 100k is a great game for me, I can't imagine how much time it takes to get this good at the game. I'm sure they are playing more then I am per day, and really studying the game. The attention, skill, and work this takes certainly deserves big props.

Wonder when we will get a point cap and that will be that for the game? Just a long list of people that also got to the point max for the game tied for 1st. Never cared for that.

Cool stuff. Glad to see another Donkey Kong 3 enthusiast. :)

Well if you have 47 minutes of time to waste, and find it interesting when people rambling on, than I would recommend that you watch my video I made about the history I had with the game, and how I became the Donkey Kong 3 champ.

About a year ago I remember reading that the "King of Kong" story had been sold to some film house that was going to turn it into a "based on a true story" feature film. Anybody else hear this rumor and know if there is any truth to it?

I remember hearing that they were looking at this guy to play Wiebe and this guy to play Silly Bitchell. Probably no truth to it at all, but interesting nonetheless.

I heard that too. It's pretty dumb, actually...
